Hello everybody
Recently bought a 97 challenger 787 with a seized pump rebuilt pump . But I would get 2 beeps and no start(no power sent to starter solenoid) after checking every thing I could .it mysteriously started working perfectly . 4beeps if you try to start in neutral . Goes into diagnostic mode. Now it's doing it again. If I jump solenoid starter will turn but no spark.and no power to energize solenoid when starter button is pressed I have checked and rechecked every fuse . Every connection .tested neutral switch , tested dess post with meter and did magnet test gauges work with key on . Tested start button and wiring right into mpem box .dissassembled both sides of connector to mpem .battery is new. Any body have any simililar experience or can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance Dan

Yes . Fuel gauge and oil light . If I jump solenoid . Tach doesn't move nor is there spark.
And thank you

When it worked every thing was fine went into advance mode. Beeped 4 times if you tried to start in gear. Now won't go into diagonositic mode . No four beeps. I spent hours checking each terminal at connector to mpem. I even tried grounding start wire yellow/rd/green inside. Box after connector

I tried that. still no spark.no power goes to energize solenoid

Just to clarify, does the starter turn over when you jumper it?

If you jump the solenoid, the motor should turn over whether the MPEM is working or not. Take a set of jumper cables and connect it directly to the battery. Ground the negative somewhere on the motor that makes a good ground and then touch the positive to the starter side of the solenoid. It should turn the starter. If it doesn't, you have 2 options: The battery is dead or the starter is bad.

It acts like it is getting a bad ground somewhere and the jumper cables will eliminate that issue as well.

When I jump solenoid the starter( which is new not rebuilt) turns the motor over perfectly . Battery is is also new. But when I push starter button I don't get power to energize solenoid. Tested with meter.
I really appreciate your time you are devoting to my problem

What I haven't tried is running a ground to the mpem itself . Like you suggested with a booster cable from batt to computer . I will post back

Unless someone else has any ideas, you might need to send your MPEM into Minnetonka4me to test out.

I assume you have checked and re-checked all the fuses?

Sounds like a weird one...I cant really test for those types of issues. There are relays embedded inside the MPEM that deal with the starting circuit, and they have been known to malfunction and either do what you are experiencing, or even crank on their own.

Rectifier is not the issue.

Thanks for the reply this is what I did this am . Removed box and mpem from box. Tested each terminal and clean with sandpaper again. Installed mpem and solenoid minus box and rectifier. Tested and worked perfectly.

Installed with rectifier and worked also. I noticed rectifier has a very a slight amount of green. On bottom seam. Is there a static test I can perform to eliminate rectifier?

Ok if I disconnect battery. When I'm done for the day .will work fine the next day. If I leave battery connected I get the same no start scenario. So I just need to buy batt switch for now .until I get a total failure then I will address the mpem. Thanks for all the help guys

AT the end of season last year my mpem issue was getting worse would often take 20 minutes of playing with key(on off,on off) to start boat. but once started in am boat was good till next day, I had lots of help from members like Waterluvr USAF_Pride Minnetonka4me .but to no avail.so determined not to have the same issue this summer this what I did. i kind of figured since the module would not wake uo when start button was push and I had traced the start signal wire numerous times right to circuit board. so I deduced that the issue had to be the relay or between , yellow ,gr,rd wire and relay. so i dug a little of the potting maerial wire still tested good. so i flipped module over , estimated where the yellow,gr,rd wire would solder. took a hot exacto knife cut out a square access hole ..and low and behold. solder joint was bad . a little solder, a little silocone and good to go. supper simple
i probably could have made the access hole large enough to check all the other wire ,solder connections but everthing else works perfect. anyway thanks everybody. hopefully this info might help somebody save another of those rare mpem's

Depends on how or what service you use to load them. I use Tapatalk

Repaired . Iprobably should have made a larger cutout .and verified the solder connections for all the other wires coming into circuitboard.

By repaired,, is the boat running or are you referring to the repair of the F1 fuse?

He's referring to the switched signal wire from the DESS post, they were just inserted from the topside of the board and soldered on the backside, his was pretty much missed by the solder joint from the manufacturer and it caused intermittent operation.

Good job finding and fixing that Danosll I've been into a bunch of these since last season and they really aren't that hard to repair with the right tools and some patience.
