I picked up a 1996 SPX (at least the registration paperwork says it is a '96). It's in great shape.

I've not had a non-DESS seadoo before, so I have a few questions:

-with the cutoff switch, was there a beeper that should chirp when I put the key on it? If so, where is the beeper located?
-should the display come on when I put the key on the switch? It comes on after starting right now. Not sure what normal is.
-what is the best theft-deterrent mod I can do since it doesn't have DESS?

Thanks

Beeper is under the bar pad at the base of the steering column.

It's acting normal. The beeper will only sound when the engine is too hot. You can hit the start button with the lanyard off and it will power the gauges for 30 seconds. For security options maybe a battery switch or battery disconnect under the seat?

Thanks. I tested that and the gauges light up. Good to know I'm not supposed to hear a beep on key.

May have an issue with the fuel unit. Says it's empty. Oh well, I wanted to take it out to change the filter anyway.
