I'm getting the exhaust pipe out of my SPX to get the plugs welded. I got the plugs from racerxxx, and they are perfect.

Question: Is there anything else I should do with the exhaust while i have it apart? Any other potential problem areas I should check out? I'm thinking I'll have them blast it as well and repaint it.

The SPX is running great, otherwise. Rebuilt the carbs last season, all the regular maintenance, so I'm not worried about the engine. Just looking for any tips on the exhaust that I should check before reassembly.

Thanks.

The plugs are the only issue you should have. I would also make sure you have a new pipe to manifold gasket.

No a bad idea to replace the support bushings for the lower pipe too. I have those and the gasket in stock.

I learned the hard way when I had my plugs welded by not using blue Loctite on the exhaust bolts and not tightening the exhaust bolts to correct torque specs. Within two hours of use I had snapped the exhaust stud and made a mess. Did it right the second time and no issues.

Degrease the pipe. Then shoot it with automotive rattle can exhaust paint from a part store. Keeps it from corroding again.
