1996 SPI Engine Electrical

On the 587 engine is there a pick up device (like the trigger coil on a 787) in the mag compartment ? I don't see one in the drawings. Sometimes when I try to start the ski, I get no spark. Then I hit the starter again and I get good fire and she starts right up. I am trying to figure this out.

no....very different. My opinion is particles of metal, or even starter teeth bits are inside the magnito & flywheel, creating electrical spikes that interrupt the internal components in MPEM. Results are Internal TIMER shuts down.

Read your manual or go to this forum HOW-TO section. Remove magnito cover, Flywheel nut, use the described FW puller to get the FW off to expose your STATOR coils. Pick or vaacum out the debris.

I just did this to my 787. If I do this, I will definitely purchase the flywheel tool. LOL I suspect there is debris in there so thanks for the input.
