The two wires coming from the MPEM (5A fuse) to the posts in the main electrical box have melted the insulation. The wires are still intact. What are these wires for? What would cause them to melt the insulation? And how would someone replace these wires? They are embedded in silicone gel.

Could the wires have burned from an overheating issue in the engine compartment? I was riding around with the flush out holes plugged.

Not likely, but with no pictures, it is gonna be tough to give any sort of meaningful answer. Does the boat run properly?
As to what they are for, you might want to download a service manual or buy one off ebay

The boat runs good. Not sure how long the insulation has been melted. I just found it the other day when I opened the electrical panel trying to find the bilge pump fuse. I wrapped the wires a couple times with electrical tape. Do you think that will be ok? None of the other wires touching the melted insulation were charred or melted.

Well, once again, without photos it is tough to say. At the very least, I would do some troubleshooting. Look at the wiring diagram and figure out what they go to. Then check that component to see if it has been replaced. How do you know what the wires look like inside the harness?i think there is a good possibility this condition is the result of a short circuit. Perhaps they are melted like that all the way to the component? A little rubbing around and you could easily have a fire on your hands. Sure would be nice to know what would be the likelihood you are to have a major catastrophe on your hands
