I just recently purchased a 1996 Challenger. When I bought the thing I already knew something was wrong with it. It cranks over just fine but will not start. I am getting to spark to the plugs. I used a test light on the hot wire that goes to the ignition coil while turning it over but isn't getting any power. Owner said he was driving it and it just died and could never getit started again. Any ideas?

If it's getting spark to the plugs than it must be getting power to the ignition wires. You should use a multi meter to test circuits as a test light could damage any circuits if you test the wrong component and ground it by mistake. Lets start at basics, do you know how to do a compression test? the cylinders should have a preferred 150 psi in each cylinder. If you not sure how to perform one let us know and we'll talk you through it. Are the plugs the correct ones. Br8es gaped at .20-.24in. Is the fuel fresh? Is it getting fuel? I'm sure we can get it running for you, if you get us some ideas on the basics.

pull out the electrical box. there are 3 or 4 fuses to check. 2 are in holdeers and 2 are into the mpem itself. the mpem is the whole brains of the outfit. do a search on ebay for seadoo mpem and you will see what they look like so you know what you are looking for. any fuses are popped, change em. if they pop again...now it gets fun.

Srevelle, in the front of the tray by the steering wheel is the one electrical box. Check the fuses there as derek says. In the rear engine compartment is the mpem(multi Purpose Electronic Modular). In there is another bunch of fuses. Be sure they are all good. If so check the plugs going to the Magneto cover and see if the wires are corroded or broken. Follow the wires back from the magneto cover( faces the front of the boat) back to the Mpem box and check the wire ends too. Let us know what you find, and we will go from there.

let see, 96 I think that has the regular lanyard cap to start it. Check the 2 wires to the lanyard cap. There should be a Black and a Black/Yellow wire the circuit is normally open. Do you know how to use a multi meter and check for continuity? With the lanyard cap on you should get a connection through the switch, with it off it sould be open. Check this and get back to us.

The lanyard cap should clip on the the consul, left side of the steering wheel. It also attaches to your wrist or life jacket. If you fall out, it disconnects the ignition and stop the seadoo from running away. The seadoo won't have spark without the lanyard. Check it out and get back to me. I own a 1997 Challenger, Jet Boat. It has a dess system,( Digital Electronic Security System) that has a special lanyard cap to make it work.
