1996 GTI - No Fuel After "Rebuild" of Carb.

There is no "adapter seal". Put the hose on the inlet nipple and block the outlet nipple with your thumb.

Thanks for hanging with me guys. So I installed the Genuine Back to Stock Carb kit.

Same thing as before, Runs fine on Hose, seems to rev high fine..

Put it in the water, and I take off like all is good, but 5 seconds later, it dies, starves for fuel. I let of throttle and it will come back and Idle then I wait 5 seconds and I can take off again...

So Its starving for fuel after running full throttle for a few seconds.

What could cause that? Air leak in a fuel line?

Other thoughts?

Check the O ring on the fuel filter/separator (located above the gas tank) and bypass the fuel selector and see if there are any changes.

Follow the carb rebuild thread step by step, it will answer all your questions.

The OSD kit comes with the correct springs.
Quick Question - I have a dual 46mm and there are two diaphragms, one is a gasket one the Mylar/plastic diaphragm...which one goes to the body. I've rebuilt it before so I have the Mylar/Plastic against the body and the gasket against the pump assy. I'm looking at 52, and 60. It ran fine the way I had it but I'm in there now so just checking.

OK, So. Removed Fuel switch, it was kinda damaged, like someone shoved the thing together with the set screw in, kinda scratched. I filed and smoothed, O ring looks good. I reassembled and Lubricated. Its better. I had been leaving it on Reserve, but switched it around. So, when on Regular, its much better, I can wiggle it and press on it and it seems to be almost perfect. , I turn it to reserve and it dies.

So I think ive got a leaking switch... or possibly leaking at the connections in the back. Hoses feel tight though, so... Ill just get a new switch for $20 and will let you know what happens.

Never clean or take apart the fuel selectors, they will leak. just spend the $25 and get a new one.

UPDATE: The OEM Fuel Selector did not help. Same issue. BUT when switching I noticed the hoses UNDER the clamps felt real week. I decided to recheck and found the problem. On the RES and OUT hoses, the hose clamps were on so tight at one point that they cut into the hoses. It was hard to tell but when off the knob, if you bend it, the cut opens up and is prety big. So I simply cut an inch off and moved the hoses up. And we are now running PERFECT! So after all that it was just an air leak in the fuel line the entire time. So I guess lesson is, dont just check all the lines, take the clamps off and look under the clamps.
Thank you all for the help I appreciate it. Tore around the lake last night had a great time!
