Hello everyone, I have a 1995 SPX that I got last year, I rode it all year without doing much in the way of work to it. I am going to do some work to the ski today and get it ready for the season. Last year when you would ride it fast (mostly at WOT, especially if you get it out of the water) it would be going along just fine and then the engine would just cut out. It does not bog down like it is getting ready to die and then it does, it just stops. And the moment it stops, while the engine is still revving down all you need to do is hit the start button and it fires right back up every time. Its not like I am getting stuck on the water, its just annoying, and I want to fix it if I can. The only other thing wrong is it is hard to start for the first time in the morning when in the water, but I think it is just a dirty idle jet in the carb, and my best guess is unrelated, hopefully seafoam might help that. I have not seen the plugs yet since I have owned it and will be switching them today no matter what. Thank you in advance for the help

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Seafoam and 2 strokes will cause more problems. Has detergents to remove oil which you need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to take carbs off and clean them throughly.
Also remove and clean fuel selector.
Also what color are your fuel lines. If they are grey they must be changed before anything else.

Ok so NO seafoam, got it (sorry not used to the smoker engines) and yes grey fuel line. What is wrong with the grey ones? Also is there a fuel filter?

w/o going to detail it has to do with newer ethanol fuels.
Causes goo to form in the lines and in the carbs to to point of fuel starvation.

Change them out before ruining a good motor!!!!!

edit: good links. look at pictures in link #2

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH the ethanol...no need to explain further, I know all about what that stuff does. Last question, how do you get those bloody hose clamps off the fuel lines?

Usually lines get soft and spongy and you can pull them off.
Otherwise cut lines in half to get carbs and intake off then its off to the fuel baffle.
Take them off one by one to avoid confusion!!!!!!

I had the EXACT same problem on a 94 xp about 3 years back. It would die when I was going fast then start right back up because I was hitting bumps harder. Coming out of the water would especially do it. My battery ground was loose. I highly suggest you check your ground wire before you do anything. Mine was loose and I kept restarting it. Finally on the last restart it fried my MPEM.
