I have a 1995 Seadoo Sportster that must be possessed. We were on our way to the river a few weeks ago when we heard a noise coming from the boat we were pulling. Somehow the starter engaged all by itself and the only way to get it to stop was to unhook the battery. I replaced the starter solenoid and that did not have any effect on it. As soon as I hook up the battery the starter engaged again. After talking with a service tech he said replace the start button swith as that could be the only other thing that could be causing this problem. Guess what, WRONG!!!

No key in the ignition and the safety lanyard is not installed.

Please don't tell me I have a problem with the MPEM as it costs $ 1200.00.

Any idea's or has anyone else heard of this?:reddevil:

mpem?.........

Not that it really matters a lot, you really don't have the MPEM. It didn't come out until 1996. You have the older form, "electronic control module", which doesn't make it any cheaper. The MPEM's came into play when they brought in the DESS system in 1996.

But, like rookie 101 says, it's going to be something by way of the starter relay, or one of your stop switches.

If I remember right, you have the lanyard switch, the stop switch and the start switch. If it's not the starter relay, it's going to be in one of those switches. Disconnect them all and use a multi meter to test continuity.:cheers:

Is there a difference between the solenoid and starter relay? I already replace the solenoid and start switch.

I am sory to say that I believe you guessed it right the module is bad. I would not replace the module just yet though. What I would do is find out which small wire is hot that goes to the solenoid. I believe it should be the yellow red and green wire. I would disconect it and rig me up a hot wire from the battery with a fuse and touch it to the soleniod end that you would have had to cut to remove the power from module going the solenoid. If there is no ill effects which I would not think there should be I would rewire the push buton start switch from the battery with a fuse and send it to the starter solenoid. the only difference that I can think there would be is that you will no longer have the safty mode that keeps it from starting in gear. I hope this helps :cheers:

Thanks

Robin,
I took you advise and what do you know. It worked!!!!

Thanks you so much.

Oh, I also have another problem with the propulsion system but I started the thread under "general discussions" instead of "Problem Solver"

Would you mind taking a look at that?

Thanks soooo much..:hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray:
