1995 gtx whining after new wear ring

I just replaced the wear ring on my 1995 seadoo gtx and I put new jet pump oil in it but now it has a whining sound towards the back. Any ideas on what the issue could be? my two thoughts are bad jet pump bearings or the impeller rubbing agains the new wear ring.

Yeah, the starter could barely turn it over. It is pretty tight around the tips of the blades bit not the main part. I put some oil on the wear ring and then it would start up

How bad was the wear ring gap- before replacing
it was pretty big. I pulled the pump again and I found melted wear ring along with very watery jet pump oil. I think the impeller shaft seal was bad. I ordered new bearings and got more jet pump oil.IMG_5308.jpeg

Interesting,i’m about to replace my jet pump wear ring on my 95’ GTX,what kind of jet pump oil should i use?

I just order the Klotz Jet Pump oil from Amazon if they still have it.
Some use Mobile 1 gear oi but it can’t tolerate any water contamination.

I use synthetic gear oil, 85-90wt, and grease all bearings and seal with synthetic grease. So, obviously the unusual noise was caused by bad bearings that allowed the impeller to woller around and tear up the new wear ring. A new wear ring should be a tight fit in the impeller housing, and screwing on the impeller, there should be a slight drag on the wear ring. A wear ring that is not a tight fit in the impeller housing, like some of these aftermarket type on eBay, can spin within the housing and makes that same noise. Best to inspect the wear ring before you remove it for uneven wear which could indicate bad bearings. And if you've got bad bearings, you've also got a bad seal
