I recently aquired a 1994 SPX with the 657 engine. I did a compression test and found both cylinders have 115 PSI. It seems to run and idle well. I haven't had it on the water yet. What should I expect? How soon will this require a rebuild? I assume a top end rebuild will fix compression. Can this be done by a shadetree mechanic? Thanks, Tim.

As long as both cylinders are the same in psi your good. 150 psi is ideal. you dont wanna go below 100 though. You should be ok for a while. I've seen your whole engine for $745.00 compared to $475.00 for a cylinder exchange in which you get everything for the topend and you swap your cylinders out. If your planning on keeping it for a while, the engine they have has 1 year no fault warranty which is pretty good and only a few hundred more than rebuild, you just take yours out and put the new one in.

Rebuilding is not hard but if you've never done it it helps to have somebody at least show how to take the pistons off and reinstall them correctly. If your gonna do it get a seadoo manual here and it will tell you everything.
