1991 xp, no sparks

A buddy of mine gave me his 1991 seadoo bombardier xp, it was running a year ago and he had seadoo service it ready to go on the lake then. But as soon as i brought it home, bought a new battery, got some 2 stroke oil, and gas, tried starting it, it turns, but it won't actually run. we looked at the plugs and they weren't sparking. do i need to just change the wires? i'm not a handy women lol any help would be great.

Hey Julie...start with new plugs, and pull the plug boots off the wires, and cut them 1/4in, then reinstall the boots. Check to see what happens..

Well i didn't do what you said, since i tried starting it again and saw spark finally. So what i end up doing is spraying in starter fluid on the spark plugs. Took a couple tries and it finally fired up. Now that it's running i'm exciting, i have to start restoring it from all the sun damage, It'll be fun. Thanks for your advice though, greatly appreciate it.
