Hi,

I have a 1989 580 Sp. Bought a new oil pump, intake system from ebay. All the bolt holes match up with the new part to the rotary valve assy. Just wondering if the new pump is any different than my oil one. (Different oiling rates etc).
The new pump has the oil lines attached near the rotary valve assy, so oil comes in to lube that part. My old part has the oil lines coming in from the top to mix with gas before it hits the rotary valve assy. Will this new system not work with my older motor? (Motor sieze, because the gas may not mix with the oil).
Thanks
Tim

Pump.......

If the pump is any different, it will be for the richer side. You may find yourself looking to lean it out, if you can. Your engine is the lowest on the totem pole. So, if you've got an oil pump for a 787 per se, then the default setting on it is more oil to what the 580 needs.

Have you considered just going to premix?

Thanks for the info. The pump I bought is off a 580 machine just a newer model year (Not sure that year though). It all bolts up the same as the origional one. The only difference I see I where the oil lines attach to the motor. The origional part has the lines putting the oil into the intake, mixing with gas before the rotary valve assy.
The new part has the oil lines in different locations, so it lubes the rotary valve assy 1st. Do you think this set up will still allow oil to mix with the gas, to lube all of the engine not just the rotary valve assy? (Just a slightly different way of oiling).
Will change to premix though I this does not work.
Thanks
Tim :)
