Wear Ring

The platic wear ring is the GIVE in the pump system. Other wise the impeller/drive system will take damage vs. a $50.00 plastic part. It is quite simple IMHO to replace a wear ring yourself. You may consider doing it yourself and saving some money. This forum has the answers to 'HOW' and advice along the way.

tiny note

the supercharger on a 4tec 215 is driven via a clutch, if you read your manual (I know, I know, but I surrendered and did so), there are warnings about how synthetic oil is SATAN, synthetic oil will void your warranty, synthetic oil causes blindness, and all.. Yes, clutch, no synthetic...

I digress, we ran the boat into hour 7 of its young life and we now hit 33mph at 6000 rpm.

Maybe nobody wants to say, but maybe there is some kind of limiter - I have not run WOT yet, and can hardly wait, (but will), to get that hour meter to 10:)

wear ring

rivayamaha.com has stainless wear rings:
RS33-159-SRX Wear Ring, Stainless Steel, 159mm, SD SRX Series
they are $190 instead of $50 or so.

they have lots of nifty stuff, but they are not giving it away

Challenger Top Speed

Thanks to everyone for the info. I feel the same about the dealers, but they have both left me with the same idea - that Seadoo was the wrong way to go here.

Karl - are you telling me that a stock 180 se will go 50+? Everything I've read has the boat in the high 40's, but anytime anyone starts talking 50 +, people seem to balk about it.

I still have not heard from the servicing dealer, but I will definitely demand a test ride before accepting it. Can anyone tell me for sure what type of speeds and rpm I should be able to demand from the dealer before accepting it back? I'm sure there will be at least 2 of us in it at the test ride.

thanks

I have a 08 challenger sc stock and I can get it up to 64 mph no problem. 50 + with 4 people as well.

7000rpms seem low to me for a sc model can some others chim in with sc 180's and list your rpms at WOT.

1) you need to check your wear ring and impeller for any kind of wear or damage.
2) Is there any water in the bottom of your boat after driving around for a while and how much if there is. If you do have excess water in the bilge then you could have a bad carbon seal.

My 09 180 SE WOT is close to 9000 RPM, usually around 88 and change... Hope that helps.

Most reviews I've seen claim 7600-7900 rpm for a 255hp c180. Which is what I get. Are your machines stock?? 9000rpm, I've never heard of revs that high??
Cheers

MY 2010 SP hits 8300 RPM and has done it since hour 1. I can get about 55mph alone in the boat and around 45mph full of people.

My boat will go initially to 8100rpm then quickly back to 7900 & cruise at 7600, I guess thats pretty standard to yours then, I do top out at 72kph-45mph with a full load. That's also after my bimini & tower mod too, I've lost maybe 6 kph after all my stuff, but its worth it.

cheers

Yep all stock, no BS here. If I got from idle to WOT it will spike as high as between 9000 and 9100 and then settle back around 8800 then down to around 8200 to 8300 and will stay around there while in WOT cruise. Does this seem off or not normal as in do you think this is something I need to get checked out?
