I have 38 hours on my 06 rxp. The battery is charged, but when I press the start button, there is a clicking noise and the starter does not turn over the engine. It takes about 10 to 15 times pressing the start button before the starter engages and the engine turns over. Electrical issue? I hear the click up front by the battery. Please help.

Thank you,

Matt

Solenoid?

Matt, this sounds like your starter solenoid. You can follow the red wire from your battery to the electrical box, remove the cover and see this wire attach to an electrical switch. This is the starter solenoid. The wire leaving it and going to the starter is your power supply. That solenoid is what you hear clicking. You can take a pair of screwdrivers and touch each post at the solenoid and then bring the screwdrivers together. If it is the solenoid, the engine will turn over. If it's the starter, there wil be more clicks. You will probably see sparks when you bring the 2 screwdrivers together.

thanks

Thanks seadoosnipe. The weird thing is that the engine turns over after i press the button 10 times. I will defiantly follow the red wire and your recommendations below. Good thing I still have warranty.

ten tries....

By pressing the button 10 times, then it engages.......it's the solenoid. If your still under warranty, then call the shop and tell them you think the starter solenoid is going out. If they screw you around and want to charge you for it.........say no thanks. We can walk you through changing a solenoid. It's one of the easiest repairs on one of these things.
