05 GTI RFI Performance Issue

I have an 05 GTI RFI and periodically over the past month the engine labors and only does about 40 mph when typically it runs 50+. I had new plugs installed and it seemed to fix it but after two good rides this past weekend, it happened again yesterday. Maintenance related, the only thing worth noting is that about a month ago my son inadvertently put in TW3 oil instead of the recommended XPS2. We only ran it about an hour and when we realized it had the wrong oil, siphoned out the TW3 and put in a full tank of XPS2.

Any ideas?

It could be that the oil mixed slightly and fouled the plugs again. Change the plugs and see what happens. How much riding on the seadoo since the mix up of oil?

number of hours since mix up

We've only put about 3 hours on it since the oil was corrected but I know the siphoning didn't get every drop out so it's possible it's still a mix of both.

I have heard thet the 2 oils form a gel, that doesn't mix too good...Change the plugs and keep us posted. Keep an open ear on things while running it.

Here's a refresher on the fuel and oil to run direct from seadoo;

Use High quality low ASH API TC Injector oil.
Do Not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2 or TC-W3 outboard motor oils or other ash less type 2 cycle oil. Avoid mixing different brands of API TC oil as resulting chemical reaction will cause severe engine damage. Never mix Mineral or synthetics oil together.

Never use fuel containing more than 10 % alcohol,( Methanol or Ethanol) as severe damage will occur. The minimum of 87 octane is recommended for most engines.

changing plugs / additive?

I'm not much of a mechanic - do the plugs need to be gapped or can I just buy a couple of plugs from my local Seadoo dealer and install them right from the box - also would you recommend any additive for the oil in case it has gelled?

The plugs you need are; NGK BR8ES Gap/ 0.5-0.6mm or .020-.024in.

Ask the auto parts store to gap them before you leave.
There is nothing you can add to the oil to help. If it has gelled it will cause a problem, but I think you got it in time. It just might foul the plugs now an then till its all out of the system.

I hope this helps.
