Driving back in yesterday the Hit a Wave and the RPM's went through the roof and the boat stopped. Towed back to house and took out of water. I can grab the shaft and spin it with my hand. It spins freely but feels a little rough. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined but when it comes to this unit I'm clueless. Should shaft spin freely? Thought might be broke drive shaft, maybe flywheel issue with clutch but I don't know. Trying to trouble shoot without taking it all apart. Thanks in advance for any help.

Last time I had this happen, was on an SP that wasn't seviced much, the grease boot was off and the drive shaft ends were dry, and the driveshaft end stripped out in the flywheel, everything looked good and felt good, but the load from the water just spun the shaft.

Are your drive shaft ends greased and capped properly?

I'm going to be honest...the little rubber boot on the end isn't on good and this is my fathers unit, I like a boat. Upon examination I will say that Grease has not seen that fitting since it was bought in 03. now to repair...I guess I need to take it apart and remove flywheel ... my son says get an aluminum flywheel??? I can't find a new one anywhere.

You'll know immediately when you pull the drive shaft and inspect the splines.

Not a big job, pull the pump, shaft comes out- Unless Seadoo changed material, the drive shaft splines fail to preserve the flywheel splines, hopefully others will comment, but shouldn't be much more than pump pull, new driveshaft, renew the boot seal, grease up with 293550010 seadoo grease, make sure your pump shaft oring to seal the drive shaft is good on the pump, renew the grease on that end too, make sure the rubber end stopbumpers are in the drive shaft ends, and reassemble, don't get carried away with the RTV on the suction line fittings in the hull. folks get carried away RTVing the pump back in, not understanding what really need sealing, the only hull opening is at the top of the pump where the lines go through the hull, the pump it self is outside the hull, and the driveshaft is where the water seal to the hull occurs.
