02 gtx with speed issue

compression is good enough to at least run. next step, put some gas through each spark plug hole and it should start and run for 5-10 seconds. if not, then change plugs and try again. if it starts and stays running after 5-10 seconds blip throttle to see if it will rev up and throttle response. if it dies after 5-10 seconds, check fuel pressure. don't let it run for more than 20-30 seconds without hooking it up to the hose and always remember, engine on, water on, water off, engine off.

if it doesn't start or even try to start, check spark.

then check compression again after it ran. do it with throttle open and other plug in and strong battery until it peaks. report back.

I already have picked up a new set of plugs to try, have 2 batteries on chargers, I think it's a feel issue either pressure or plugged/bad injectors, just need to find someone who has a fuel pressure rig...lol

How much fuel should I put in each cylinder? Just a few drops I'd assume.

More than a few drops, like a tablespoon in each cyl.

The fuel injectors are very reliable as long as somebody didn't add oil to the gas thinking it is good thing. The air injectors fail more. Only use NGK plugs, anything else will cause problems.

Don't get stuck thinking it is one thing, just go through the proper diagnostics sequence and it will lead you to the problem. Have you checked for active codes by pressing set 5 times? Then press mode until it says END if you have more than one. Any messages on the dash or blinking light when the key is put on?

I put a few drops in and it ran for about a second, so I spark should be good. I don't recall seeing any codes on the display until I try to start it and it pops up with "maint", now with the gas I put in, when it ran for the short time, I didn't see "maint". Got a fuel pressure tester, only goes to 100psi, that I'm gonna test with, it should at least give me an indication if it's a fuel pump issue.

Just as an FYI, it isn't safe to operate a pressure gauge over it's pressure reading especially when high pressure fuel is running into it.

Well I can at least see if the primer pressure reaches mid 20s before I go buy stuff to make one for higher pressure.

So I had the fuel pressure checked by someone who knows what they're doing, and he looked it all over. He feels the pump is weak and the fuel pressure regulator needs replaced due to it not holding pressure. So, should I try to find a complete fuel assembly or pump and regulator seperate? And what places would u recommend for quality and decent priced parts?

Yea but he had his rig hooked up and as soon as he let go of the start button, the pressure began to drop, down from around 100 to 50 in a matter of a minute or 2.

That's normal. What really matters is whether it's reaching the 107psi +/-2 psi which is what it will need to run. As mentioned above, fuel pressure regulators are very very reliable. Your person who knows what they are doing may know cars but it sounds like they don't know DIs very well. Before you go replacing $700 parts, what pressure did it reach while cranking? It should shoot up to the 107 instantly.

He's not so much a car guy as been working on pwc for over 20 years and is a mechanic at a local pwc dealer

Okay, great. Is your ski running yet? Or did he tell you why it won't start? If he was experienced with DIs he'd know that it is not a constant 107psi system and pressure is bled off as soon as the fuel pump shuts off. Then when you put the key on, it primes the pump and gets the system up to 26psi, then when you press the start button it goes to 107psi and the pump runs the entire time maintaining the 107psi. If you are getting at least 100psi of fuel pressure, it will start and run but needs at least 105 to run properly. Still curious if it reached 107psi? I can only guess that you do not have a fuel pump problem as they typically don't go slightly low, they go very low or dead to cause it not to run. Have you verified your fuel is good in the tank? I'd drain it and put fresh gas in just to be sure. It only takes a little bit of water in the tank which will sit at the bottom and be picked up by the fuel tank to keep it from running.

Honestly not sure how high it got as I couldn't really see the gauge. As far as the fuel, I've gotten some out of the filter and when putting that same fuel into the cylinders manually, it fires and runs till it burns it up.

So, you went through the trouble to do the test and you don't know the result? Seems odd.

Yes, fuel with some water in it will burn in large quantity when poured in but may not when pressurized through an injector.
