Ok guys i am looking at a 01 Seadoo
Original Owner purchased in 03 less than 20 hours.

The bad:
Only rode twice past two years (once each summer) and says that the gas is now probably bad and has a dead battery.
So i will have to drain the gas when i get it home ( if i buy it.)

It is a 5 hour drive to the ski so i want to make sure it is a good ski to buy..

I was planning on bringing a battery and starting it up to make sure it runs ok. Should i run the ski this with the bad gas?

What other things should i look for with this ski The engine compartment looks clean and dry.

I figured with the low hours the ski should be in great shape mechanically.
He had the 10 hour service done at the dealer and it is always garaged.

It is on a double trailer and I can get it for 3500 with trailer.

Should I be concerned about buying this ski??

What else should I do before the purchase and what should i do after i get it besides draining the gas and checking the rave valves and changing the plugs?

I'd be leery about what was done to winterize it. I would certainly check compression with your battery.

Buy you one. Auto zone, 22 buks wit tax.

Take out both sparker pluggies, and ground out the sparker plug wires, on the holders. (2 prongs that stick up, right in that area).

Insert the compression tester, and crank motor for about 20 seconds. Read the compression tester. Then, do the other one.

Perdy simple.

(I can do it too!)

Cheap insurance against buying a bad motor.

I don't know if i have a compression gauge....

( it is garaged...)

AutoZoo or any auto parts store will have one. It doesn't have to be an expensive one and read past 200 psi

I don't give a rip if it was garaged. If he didn't winterize it, the cylinders could be rusted up along with a bunch of other parts.

Good to know.... WHat PSI should i be seeing??

150-175??

What Aklim means is that 140/145 on the two cylinders would be good.

Or, 150/155

That is, the 2 measurements should not be more than 10% different, from each other.

And, not 100/110. That would be too low.

Nate

Yah, throw out there lower price, and with that, have buddy with you, and "CASH". Cash always works, specially if dude hard-up in need of some "green".

he tested the compression for me and was 130/135

Is this an ok number for a ski with only 20 hours? I expected it to be higher.

I still think it will need a carb cleaning to ht it running good.

Compression may come up, after it runs a while, and gets the little spots of corrosion off the cylinder walls, and gets fresh gas and oil in it.

some new motors have low compression, due to poor parts fit, before break in. Lots of change occurs in a motor, during break in. Especially high performance 2-strokes!

I would not be afraid those numbers.

Sounds good...
I talked him down to 3200 with trailer.
He said it ran last night and doesn't think the gas is that bad...

I will still do a gas pump and change out the oil...

We'll see if it needs a carb cleaning...

I figured at 3200 with trialer and I could turn aroud and sell it easy for that price if its running (If not more.)

Well I picked it up for 3200 with double Shorelnder trailer.
Trailer has small leaf springs under it and pulls GREAT!! got about 16MPG pulling it home with my tacoma over many hills 6% grades.

I will take some pics when i get home... What year did they get rid of the gray fuel lines and go to black... (This ski has never had any ethonol gas in it he drove to WA state to get gas for it and his bikes.

OK guys what do i need to do to winterise this boat?

I will store it indoor in my father shop but it is un-insulated.

How do i get antifreeze into the system?

The previous owner used seadoo lube and flushed it after every ride.
(he just sprayed it under a flap on the intake do i not need to take off the plastic cover to get fogging solution into the motor/carbs?)

(Also where is the best place to find a cover it doesn't have one. and what size battery do i need to get? just any ATV PWC battery?)

Sorry for the dumb questions... I have owned many skis but none through the winter. I want to make sure it is stored correct.

No way... she wanted a three seater... She likes the nice stable easy cuiser..
I am the one who likes the sport bikes... hense the XP.

She did not like my SPX at all... she loved the GTX... same engine but liked the stability.

I think you may be on to something about what goes on inside a woman's head... "She likes the nice stable easy cuiser.."

If YOU are a NICE, STABLE, EASY CRUISER.... It just may be a ltr!
