Can anyone help as to what i should do next it would be soo appreciated.
heres what happend tryed starting ski up on trailer. Cranked until it was about to fire then stopped. started then couldnt turn motor over all i could hear was clunk..clunk...clunk. i then procceded and pulled the starter motor out. got it out and the spark plugs and tryed to turn over by hand. no more than an inch or movement. just makes a clunk sound right behind the carbs almost sounds like the piston is jamming on a reed valve?? is this even posible? took the head off and could move the pistons just a little. clunk the same as before so i thought it may not be connecting rods. now im stuck!! please help!!

pull the pump. Its a 10 minute jobber, then turn the pto, if still seized, time to tear motor apart, to inspect further.

thanks for the quick reply. Well i did pull the cone cover and the bearing seamed fine. i gave up from there as i could hear something definately in engine.

i have seen skis that were cranked unitl the battery was dead ,jam up the starter bendix drive
dont know why it happens ,but it does
try to rotate engine backwards,to free up bendix, might be tough on your model
maybe pull front engine cover off to take a peak
mud

Use your Stethoscope or you can use a piece of tubing to locate the internal
location quickly, as you rock the PTO back & forth.

Thanks Mudpie, ill definately have a look if thats causing me the problem ive tryed rocking the engine backwards it doesnt make a clank noise when its rocked backwards its more of a jam but still make a clank forwards. ill take cover off and take a look. and let you know.

thats another great idea with use of the stethoscope ill give that ago aswell and try and pin point where its coming from.thanks Bills86e

Clank and jam..?

If you roll the engine over in one direction and get a clank, then roll the motor in the other direction and get a jam, sounds like you dropped a connecting rod.

Although the starter drive assembly can do this, the description you just gave, if it's as accurate as you described, sounds like a dropped cylinder.

Removing your spark plugs, looking for signs of overheating or lean might help decide on your next step. You can remove the RAVE's and peer into each cylinder and see the sides of your pistons and rings. If you see anything out of the norm, it's not too hard to pull the head cover. :(

hi seadoosnipe. i thought is was a connecting rod too maybe a bent one. i have pulled the head cover to find the cylinder walls and tops of pistons in great condition. then i did move the pto and got a little movement as before and could see both pistons moving. so i didnt think more of it. may have to pull the carbs and check i think its just worth pulling the motor out to inspect.
thanks seadoosnipe.

787 engine locked up

I got a 97 seadoo 1800 Challenger and this past summer took it to the beach and the port engine jammed and won't turn. I checked the pump assy and it turns freely. The engine won't turn. I took the heads cover and there was something that looked like corrosion on the cylinder heads. I cleaned it up, put some wd-40 and xpx oil and tried pushing the heads down and it is still jammed. Any suggestions please. Thanks Johnny

Well it turns out mine bent a con rod!! theory believes that it had to much fuel in cylinder and reacted like hydrolock. not happy as i think carbs must of been leaking. its a huge guessing game. thanks for all the advice

Jros i think you may have to let it soak with wd-40 and tap the pistons with back of hammer if you see corrosion that is usally the case. how long had it been sitting??

Thanks Conz00, I flushed the system back in august after my trip to salt water, I just started getting ready for the spring. The boat stays inside the garage. I will try pushing down the pistons with hammer again.
