    Steering cable 2005 GTI RFI

Thanks! It failed with age (I think). I had a pro do it (and he removed the pump/impeller housing). $100 He removed the remaining threads of the original plug by prying/breaking them out with a small/sharp screwdriver. Replaced plug with a brass one. Seals are in good shape!

    Steering cable 2005 GTI RFI

I could not turn right (during last ride) and noticed water in my bilge. I found nut #55 broke off (part of it is still left in the treads). I am trying to figure out: 1) How to get the remnants of the old nut out of the threads so I could put a new one in place. 2) I think I need to pull the...

Gas pressure out fuel selector valve

I replaced the plugged-up fuel selector valve (on/res/off) last year...no issues after that. I had the 2000 GS on its trailer/covered during a few weeks in hot Florida and I noticed fuel seeping from around the top of the selector valve. The fuel tank is pretty full. I opened the fuel fill cap...

Installing bumper corners - rivets, screws or bolts?

Me too...hard to get a rivet gun into the recess...stainless screws that do not cut/protrude.

looking at a 12 GTI vs a yamaha vx

I just got a 2011 with 31 hours. DRAIN THE FUEL TANK! I ran new gas and fuel injector cleaner and changed plugs...good to go! The only issue I seem to have is water seeping in around the ride plate cooling ports...hoping some RTV will solve that.

    Water in bilge...2011 GTI SE130

I saw a few videos where the impeller had to be removed to get the ride plate off...didn't know why! Anyway, I will look for a graphic or something from the service manual on how to do it...THANKS!

    Water in bilge...2011 GTI SE130

I believe I have isolated the salt water intrusion from the hull penetrations where the "radiator" hoses go thru to the riding plate. I am hoping this is a known issue with a known solution?

I am thinking about reverse test too.

    Water in bilge...2011 GTI SE130

With the engine off, when I drop the ski (on its lift) to this line (see picture) water starts to come in from the very back of the ski (on both port and starboard side). I cannot see the origin (yet) as it is coming from somewhere hidden by a rubber hose on the starboard and the iBR pump on...

2000 GS runs for a minute then dies?

It turns out that my magneto/stator has gone bad. No output (but I tried the simple inverter first). :-( 717 engine. I wonder how hard it is to do in my garage?

2000 GS runs for a minute then dies?

My GS starts and runs great for a few (2-3) minutes (warm up and maybe 3/4 throttle) ...then it bogs/dies. When it dies I can hit the start button and the starter/motor turns over (healthy) but will not start (choke, no choke, etc...). Park it on my lift for 15-20 minutes and it restarts...

    2000 GS Hull/Deck seam

I have determined I have a small leak in the aft section of the hull/deck seam under the rub rail of my 2000 GS. I am in the process of drilling out the rivets to get access to the seam. Any recommendation as to the cleaning (out the old sealer) and what to use for new sealer (3M 5200?)...

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

Got exhaust out of way...looks like water is coming from the underneath the floatation foam, most likely hull/deck seam. I will try to learn how to remove/repair the seam. Thanks all! Tom

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

I will try that...tomorrow. I replaced the missing drain plug O-ring and that seems to have reduced the amount of water coming in from the unknown source. I am wondering if its leaking around the threaded drain plug receptor/receiver. I will probably: 1) Try to jack up the front of the ski...

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

Okay...I found one of my hull drain plugs does not have a rubber O-ring (the other does and no leaks on that side). The bilge drain plug is "captured"...how do I release while retaining the capture mechanism?

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

Roger...they are loose, will the water box (#11) move aft enough in the hull to disengage the hose (#3)? THANKS!

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

What is the secret/sequence to get the darn airbox out? I have removed the rubber strap and loosened the hose clamps...it seems to need to move aft to disengage the J-pipe? The top port is loose but I cannot seem to move the airbox aft enough to get it off the J-pipe

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

I found a matching construction "seam" on the other side (right by the battery). That being said I will probably just JB Weld it for security.

Water leak 2000 GS with 717 engine not running

Glad you saw that...at first I though it was a crack BUT it did not leak when down in the water or when hull filled with water??? I guess its a "flaw" in the composite. I may just JB Weld it anyway? Will remove waterbox, etc... Still planning on jacking up the front of the ski to allow more...
