    787 crank seal leak

Also so far, we’ve run it plenty without opening the valve, and again, the vent line level hasn’t changed enough to notice. Previously, after a week or so without operation, we’d have either oil in the cylinder and it hydro-locked, or, it’ would be very smokey

    787 crank seal leak

We put it about 8-10 inches below the oil tank outlet. So far the level in line that runs back to the top of the tank at the vent opening hasn’t changed at all. We identified an easily reachable spot in the supply line where the valve could lay and be easy to operate.

    787 crank seal leak

PS, we ended up using a 1/2 PEX 1/4 turn ball valve, it fit like it was made for it!! This was a 10 minute job, it actually took more time to buy the valve than even close to installing it.

    787 crank seal leak

So, post gate valve install, problem totally solved for now, its working great--something to consider too, even with the valve shut off, the column of oil in both the supply and vent line will provide an oil supply for multiple hours if not fuel tanks of operation. the rotary shaft chamber will...

Is this the right oil for a 1996 SPX? So confused…

Couldn’t agree more, I have the same boat and have always run BRP mineral. 25years and counting.

    787 crank seal leak

I think your spot on here--bottom line, thin enough to permeate the RV bearings and components, thick enough not to migrate through the seal lands.

    787 crank seal leak

that would be my concern, gear oil doesn't atomize like injection oil, which means it would have to go somewhere!

I bought an air powered one for some MB injector work, that is a reverse of a sprayer–the suction line runs into the bottle and the discharge air runs through a disbursing screen

03 GTI LE-RFI runs but no impeller.

You'll know immediately when you pull the drive shaft and inspect the splines. Not a big job, pull the pump, shaft comes out- Unless Seadoo changed material, the drive shaft splines fail to preserve the flywheel splines, hopefully others will comment, but shouldn't be much more than pump pull...

    787 crank seal leak

I had/have the same question, the lines are gravity feed to the top RV oil port, and the bottom line runs back to the vent connection on top of the tank, and based on the images here, there sure doesn't seem to be any motive flow of any kind in the RV cavity itself in the form of an impeller or...

Gene--how long have you left the valve on after shut down before there's enough oil back in the crankcase from the seals leaking? I've seen some folks mention a couple of days, others shut it off every ride, and others morning on, evening off--thoughts?

There are some repair options in this thread short of a new engine or crank 787 crank seal leak

03 GTI LE-RFI runs but no impeller.

Last time I had this happen, was on an SP that wasn't seviced much, the grease boot was off and the drive shaft ends were dry, and the driveshaft end stripped out in the flywheel, everything looked good and felt good, but the load from the water just spun the shaft. Are your drive shaft ends...

    787 crank seal leak

Dan-if you were to choose in a descending order of repair options, how would you rank your repair options, ie, this might be kind of obvious but I like your thinking in this post and would be curious to hear your thoughts. 1 Outright crank replacement and 518 sealing the new seals in place...
