Check the chart again. SD-CD 15/23 is for 96-97 GTX. 14/22 is def for GTI.

The PTO cover is at the back end of the engine, it is a plastic shroud that covers the PTO shaft (driveshaft). It's held in place with 2 wingnuts. The solenoid is in the black ignition box behind that. Yes the starter cable will lead you in there.

The 12mm ID oil return line runs from the lower port side engine fitting to the top fitting of the oil tank.

What carb kits were used?

Have the carbs been rebuilt?

Did you check the popoff during the carb rebuild? You absolutely have to have the correct needle valve spring in there. I have a 97 GTI (has single carb) that the PO said had rebuilt the carb. It started easily and ran but when I got that junk on the water the throttle was like an on off switch...

Check your key for magnetism before buying one. I'm sure you know you will have to have the MPEM reprogrammed again when you buy the new key. Your problem could be something else. Good luck.
