I was recently Gifted a 96 Xp 740 I had to replace the rotary valve in it and took it to the lake Saturday everything ran great with exception for the homemade trim system i was pumped to have my first ski water ready the wife and i had plans to go out Sunday with some friends and everything went down hill from there we get to the lake i drop it in the water the ski starts right up i pull over to the beach area to pick her up and we both jump on and boom it wont start with both of us on the ski its like with the extra weight of two people there's to much water in the exhaust anyone have any idea what would cause the ski to run with one person but not with two people

despite what it says, that ski can really only handle 1 person

not for running reasons but for flipping over reasons

Start with a compression test with a known good gauge, unless you have one, just rent one from an automotive parts store

Nothing. I've had some fat fuks on my X4 skis before and they sit low as hell but no issues running.

This will cause hard starting in the water. Measure the RV clearance and see if its within spec

i didn't have it machined, I took the more visual approach lol it didn't have any heavy scaring nothing that would hang a finger nail anyway.
how do you measure the RV clearance and do you have a good website to find the specs for it i do have a machine shop at my disposal so machining it wont be a problem i just have limited knowledge of skis "jet drives" this being my first.

agreed i will be doing this i don't suspect it being a low compression it was just rebuilt i say that loosely i don't know they guy who did the work but everything else he has done it does look like he took pride in this work

does it only not start or have a hard time starting after the engine has warmed
it will start easily out of the water hooked to a water hose but in the water it has a hard time starting i have to play with the choke etc. to get it going as others have stated I will be checking compression first and then the RV clearance next after doing a little research I'm leaning towards it being a clearance issue
