Replacement Pump Housing Shattered from apparent Wear Ring Failure?

I just replaced the pump housing on my 2004 XP DI with a pre-assembled housing and wear-ring setup from WSM, after about 4 hours, it looks like the wear ring massively failed and broke through the housing itself. Has anyone had this happen before? I am following up with the parts house in hopes of a warranty on the part, but I never imagined a wear ring breaking up like this. Appreciate any feedback or suggestions on what might have led to this.

When you had the pump in your hands, before all this,,,on the work table, could you freely spin the prop with one finger?,,,if yes,,,then I would suspect you pulled in a foreign object(s), and ground/wore out the wear ring when you rode,,,does that pump have the 4 small self tapping set screws (2 on the top, 2 on the bottom),,to prevent the wear ring from turning?,,.if yes,,,it is possible to screw them in a smidgeon too far and put pressure on the prop.

Thanks for your note. Yes it did spin freely. I had spun it to test after the nose cone and oil were in. This pump did not have the holes for the self tapping screws like the OEM pump had. I am wondering if that was part of the problem.
The ski was running and performing well right up to this, since the pump replacement.
I appreciate your comment and thoughts on this, I want to be sure to rule out as much as I can before potentially investing in another pump.
