Fuel baffle issue

In the process of fixing my fuel baffle I crushed the top glass tube that held resistance from one side to the other. If I put a piece of wire across (acting like the glass resistor) it works. My question is if I solder it across with a small piece of solder just like I did replacing the F1 fuse, would that be safe?

Was it an actual resistor? if so, then you may give faulty readings to your gauge. If it was just a conductor, you will be fine with just solder.

If you know how to solder, you could quickly test it and hook it up to the gauge and test full up, full down, and see if the gauge responds accordingly. If its inaccurate, then you'll have to search for the right resistance. But for the cost of a baffle, IMO its worth the gamble. You can always de-solder something as well. So no harm is being done.

Yes the top glass resistor. I tested it with a piece of wire and I get the correct readings. Thanks for the reply. I will solder a piece across it.

I do not see how this would fix it, the glass tube has 2 small metal prongs inside it that contact each other when the float/magnet is underneath it to bridge the 2 sides of the board together thus giving the correct resistance reading for the proper level of fuel, adding a wire there will just make the reading stay constant, if its the very top one it will always read full.

You are 100% correct. I tried to solder the broken piece and it does what u said. Thank you for the info. eBay it is.

How long is your fuel baffle. My buddy might have one that will fit it. He just parted a 951 gtx and a 717 gti.

It's the long one with the white extension on the bottom. That would be good if he has one. Let me know. Thank you.

What ski did it come out of? 15 gallon tank? Ill make sure the sending unit works if he has one an if not ill fix it.
