engine alignment without tool (seadoo snipe)

I read in another posting that Seadoo snipe and others had some ideas to align the engine without the special tool. I would love any advice for alignment without the tool as I live in an area where shipping outcosts the tool price. Thanks for your help

Maybe a broom stick or a piece of conduit. Something that will fit in the PTO
splines tightly and will protrude through the transom. Shim the motor mounts
so the stick goes through the center of the hole where the pump should be.
That should get the alignment in the ballpark!

I've done a bunch of engines without using my alignment tool... and... if you know what you are looking for... it's not a big deal. But, if it's your first engine... I would recommend trying to find an alignment tool local to you that you can borrow.

I tried conduit, no go. It fit in really tight, but it seems it didn't crush evenly and put a bend in the conduit. I tried with another piece and it did the same thing. Problem seems to be that if you have something that isn't the perfect size, it has to crush or bend to get into the impeller and it just doesn't happen evenly enough to use for aligning the engine. That being said if anyone finds a way to do it on the cheap, I'm all ears.

Is the alignment tool nothing more than a machined rod of a particular diameter? If so I'd just take some measurements and then go to a local machine shop and have them turn one out on a lathe. Better yet, if you know someone that works at a machine shop just have them use a scrap piece and there you go.

The alignment tool has a plate that bolts to the pump bolts, at the transom to make sure the engine is going to be straight, and in-line with the pump.

you do NOT use the tool to align the engine. you DO use the tool to check that the engine is properly aligned.

Bringing thread from the dead for confirmation before I rip up my attic.
I have another empty jet pump(no impeller just a bearing on one side) and going to get another drive shaft.
Couldn't I use that as alignment tool?? I thought I read a thread where someone used another drive shaft instead.
