Lost "Keys"?

So I finally got a new battery and spark plugs for one of my seadoos ('97 XP) I charge the battery and connect it, and press the start button. Well now I just realized there's this little thing.

I've looked in the compartment bins and trailer bin, nothing that fits it. Is it just a magnetic "key" that fits around or is it an actual electric one?

Man, I'm all bummed out now, no way to reach the guy who had them before. Am I royally screwed with two trailer weights?

Yes, you are totally screwed... The system is called the DESS (digital electronic security system). There is a ROM (read only memory) chip embedded in the lanyard cap that communicates with the MPEM to tell it, you have the right key.

To play around, push the stop/start button 5 times. You should hear one long, one short beep. This will tell you that your in the advanced diagnostic mode. You won't be able to do any more than that though.

The good news. If you have all the paper work in order, you can take the ski to your local Seadoo shop and ask them to purchase a lanyard key, and to please program it.

Under most conditions, when you buy the new lanyard, the programming is free of charge. I might suggest you buy at least two.

Do not try to jump this ski with a magnet or screwdriver. YOu might damage the mpem..... The cost of the lanyard usually runs about $75 to $85 bucks..:cheers:
