Lake Gaston (NC/VA) X4 Ride

I just skipped in and out. I was doing a machine install in Vegas. Wife and kids went on vacation to OBX for the week. I took a red eye from Vegas to Charlotte, then Charlotte to G-ville. The my sister and bro-in-law drove me over to OBX for a day and a half and then I drove the fam home to Philly Saturday. I was in G-ville for 20 minutes tops. Next time I'm there and I have the skis I'll let you cats know for sure.

ugh! I hate vegas. Was just there for a week for a conference for work. Other than the hot skanks walking around half naked the place blows. Fortunately I didn't have to spend my own money, but the food is fukkin expensive and not worth it.

I just got back from the Keys. Man, it was awesome! Owning a ski is a MUST in FL. I had my wife tow me around some coral reefs on the ski. I just held on and took in the sights. So awesome. I did notice a stream of bubbles coming out the nozzle. I'm guessing my carbon seal is toast. Got to replace that, and/or maybe switch to a carrier seal as well. These carbon seals are not worth the convenience of never having to grease.
Anyway, I have a bit of work to do on my skis, but nothing that would prevent me from going on a ride. When/where?
you should make the Gaston ride then!! The 29th this month. Make it happen!

LOL, I never went to the strip this last trip out. Been to Vegas twice before and had a great time. Since you went for business, I bet it sucked. When you can just go with you and the wife it's a good time. I went to one casino, the M. And guess what that was for??????????? The all you can eat buffet, LOL. The people I know out there had a meal comp'd so I got to hammer down on the food.

I stayed at Mandalay bay. The first conference was there, the second at Ballys and Paris. The conference was amazing, but Vegas in general is meh to me. I guess since I don't drink I don't quite see the allure. My hotel was nice. Accidentally wandering in to a toptional pool with big fake tittays staring you in the face wasn't half bad. You have to pay to rent a chair so we peaced out to the wave pool.

I'm severely hyper active, even in my mid 30s. I can't just sit there for long without doing something. So gambling is something I could do in spurts, but get bored quick. We looked into some of the shows but once I saw they were $185 for the crap seats I lost interest.

Man, I don't think I'll be able to make it to the Gaston ride either :( My wife will be undergoing surgery on the 27th and I'll need to tend to her. It's nothing serious, but she def. won't be able to ride, and I don't want to just leave her alone.

As for Vegas, I really enjoyed how well they tend to the place. Seems like every square inch of every casino is tended to by a professional. I thought the displays, exteriors and interiors were quite exquisite. I found the food at some of the buffets amazing, especially the one at the Belagio. This was some time ago, and it seemed to me then that the prices weren't that crazy. $20 when an average buffet here was ~12-25 depending on where you go. And yea, drinking makes the whole experience A LOT better

What part of gaston are you on? I have a place in pea hill creek. I pretty much grew up on the lake.

I'm sure we have. I've been around LKG my whole life and have been riding doos since 94. I would love to join this weekend but don't have any running at this time. Sold all the running skis. Just have a handful of projects now. Still looking for the right X4 to restore and keep. May be down there with the family in the Ol Searay this weekend though.

You've got a couple days to put together a project. :) Either way you likely won't miss us. 3 yellow x4s aren't all that common......well I haven't seen any others when there.

Hi guys, been out of the loop for a few weeks getting the girls ready and off to college and missed this thread....empty nesters now so back to the skis. Went to Jordan on Sunday and was surprised how low the lake had dropped. Must be down 4-5 feet - thought we had descent rain throughout the summer.

Yea, Jordan is drying up. I think it's cary is sucking all the water out of it. I've seen stumps popping up in places I've never seen before. I wonder how Falls is doing... Anyone going riding this weekend?

Yeah, we will be at Lake Gaston haha.

Great thing about Gaston is there is always water. Regulation requires them to always be within 12 inches of full.

Nice, Jordan is a sippy cup for all the bloating communities nearby. I wish regulations would be more on the side of nature instead of helping people water their lawns.

Doesn't Gaston feed off Kerr Lake? I hear that Kerr has issues with water levels and that why there's floating docks. Been in NC for 25 years and never been on it.

Yep, Kerr feeds into Gaston. Kerr does have floating docks where Gaston has fixed docks.

You guys should make the drive to Gaston. :) if not next week I'm pretty sure I'm open on Sat to ride Jordan or falls. Falls was full a few weeks back when we rode it. Jordan did seem hella low when I was out there at the beginning of the season.

When are you planning to go to Gaston? We may be heading that way for the Labor Day weekend.

The ride is scheduled for this Saturday the 29th at my place on Gaston. Myself, Suke, and 1983 are in thus far. Another friend of mine on the lake is going to join us for the ride to lunch. He is almost 70 years old and rides a 400+ HP 90 mph Yamaha FZR we built. I swear he looks just like Colonel Sanders (KFC guy).

Riding w. the Colonel :). What time do you guys plan to ride tomorrow? I might be in if I can make some quick arrangements since the wife is needing the tow car to head to ECU to take a some furniture to our daughter.

I know Suke is getting to my place around 9am'ish. Not sure about Rob yet. But we will be riding all day. We will probably head out from my dock for a late lunch around 1ish. 30 mile round trip down the lake to a good burger place on the water.

Great ride today. 4 skis total, 3 - X4 and 1 - wake seadoocanoe.

I'm bout beat!

Pics from today. Only casualty is my gauges will no longer turn off. Have to unhook the big cable connection and they turn off. Not sure what the problem is. Searching there's only 2 people that have had that issue and neither have a resolution.
