Happy New Year from New Zealand- Not so happy here! I just hit a hidden rock in my 2007 C180 SC and ripped the bottom out of my boat but worse than that all the water went out of the cooling system and the motor got hot and shut down. We had to limp home by pouring water continuosly into the bottle and managed to get out of the river. Looking under the boat there's a gash about 1 meter long by 150mm wide (shit) and the water appears to be coming out of the a hole in the alloy skid plate at the back of the hull. Is this part of the cooling system?
It looks like my boating is on hold for a while. Thank god for insurance. Do you think the motor will have survided getting hot? cheers Charlie in NZ

Yes, your ride plate is the radiator in your boat. A hole in it is a bad thing.

As far as “Will my engine survive?”… don’t know. If it was lightly overheated, it will be fine. If it was severely overheated… it can eat itself on the next hard run because of bearing damage.

Thanks

Cheers - I guessed it must of been. We headed straight to the bank at crawl speed when the alarm sounded so not sure if that counts as severe overheating. We managed to crawl home at 1 m/h with a few dozen fills from a water bottle and the alarm stayed off so fingers crossed. I'll make sure the insurance company keeps a note incase it craps later on. Can you weld those radiators or is it a throw away part?
