That's great news Craig...hey can I have that huge Ice Cream Cone...behind your boat?

Karl

Sweet, I'll be riding in one of those in a few years, going to bang on a 97 1800 until the wife is done with school!

Guys,

Yes this is the one I've been trying to get done this week. I paid $16,500....Its used with 19 hours. The boat is in great shape.....Its not perfect but I'm good with it. The owners had lots of boats prior but this was their first jet boat so it has a few blemishes from dock encounters but nothing significant. Just a decal scratch or two.

The owners were some great people. Really nice folks! I intend on keeping in touch with them.

Stay tuned for some questions as I need some opinions.

Craig

Whoo Hoo!!!!:cheers::cheers::cheers:

Nice looking boat! Great looking rig with it!!!

I am glad to hear that the deal went without a hitch!

Sea trial

Guys,

I got the sea trial prior to the closing of the deal. This was the first time I've run a C-180 so my most recent point of reference was my Utopia 205 with the 310hp twin package.

I am extremely pleased with the size of the boat. It feels very roomy and the layout is fantastic while underway. We had five of us on board. We couldnt really rip because it was real choppy from the weather and the wake from some significant sized vessels. Again, the weather was about to storm so it was a relatively short sea trial of about 20 minutes. Idling......Its quieter than the Twin engine U-205. At Zero throttle in forward the boat has less control than the twin U-205. All that's required is a slight amount of throttle and its normal to me. The Digital dash setup is quit nice. No wonder they use it on many of their boats...It is a good functional ascetically pleasing design. The Hole shot was a disappointment. Engine RPMs scream but seems like the boat cavitates more than I think it should. Again I'm coming from the Twin 310 package but I still think its got an issue(I think I know what it is-See pic). The ride on this boat is actually quite good for its size and considering the rough waters we were in I'm pleased on that account. We weren't able to do a top speed run because of the chop and wake from the big boats running around but got the boat on plane and cruised at 30 MPH. A couple of quick bursts and I was able to get the RPMs to Mid to upper 7000's so I feel the Supercharger is solid. The Pump on the other hand.......

Below please see two photos of the intake under the boat. I see two issues. One, the factory guy who assembled the pump squeezed a massive wad of sealant out along the entire upper radius of the intake. I think this has got to be hurting the efficiency of things. Secondly, while the impeller looks OK to me the Wear ring is suspect. What do you guys think?

Craig

oh man, now that you finally bought a boat what is the entire forum going to revolve around?

Just Kidding, looking awesome Craig!

I'd say that sealant has to be the issue with your low end cavitation.

Congrats

Holy black RTV Batman. They sure missed that one during QC. Can you reach it with long kitchen knife? or will you have to take the pump out?

Good looking boat Craig--about the zero throttle in forward, my 08 180 is the same--can't be trusted. I don't know if it's the same for all sea-doos but if you use neutral, you'll still move forward slowly but will have a LOT more control (plus, it's a lot easier to jog it into R for dock stops). Took a few decal scratches to learn this on mine (and one pretty good dock crunch!).

The ring looks fine, but I would reach up there with an xacto knife (hobby razor knife) and cut out that blob of goo. The wear ring can actually get pretty beat up before cavitation, or an increase of RPM occurs. The ring in my boat looks like poop… but the clearance is still good, so the only time I get a little cavitation is from a dead stop, and mash full throttle with 3 or 4 people in the boat.

So… at first I thought Karl wanted to rob your little girl of her ice-cream cone… the I realized that he wanted the giant on in the back of the second picture. Was the ice-cream a bribe to keep the wife happy? I know when I bring things home… I have to do something to keep my wife happy. (I have a tendency of just showing up with toys) This week I told the wife I was going to buy a little dirtbike for my little girl, and I came home with 2. (I needed to ride with my daughter… right:hurray:) I told the wife it was a 2 for 1 deal… but then I had to take her to her favorite restaurant to keep from getting choked.

Tony!

Tony,

Your alot like me bro.....Easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission

My daughter was so well behaved the entire trip(6 hours round trip) that on the way home I wanted to take a break, stretch and reward her for being such a good kid! She'll always remember the day we bought the boat and had ice cream.

Yesterday, I saw a Ford Focus with a trailer hitch and ball..still trying to imagine what it is pulling??

Craig used to pull his Utopia 205 with the same vehicle and I pull my 205 U boat with a Chrysler Pacifica. In fact, planning a vacation with a boat next week. Going north with a buddy...pulling it for about 8 to 10 hours toward Duluth!

Yeah it looks as though it would pull great, the boat is level with the vehicle, I always see these "GUYS" that have huge lift trucks but don't bother to purchase a drop hitch and boat looks like it is at a 45 degree angle and would scrap along a speed bump. Great purchase it is nice that you finally got what you wanted.

ok ok ok..... eaaassyyyy there craig! lol... dont go off the deap end! lol.. j/k! the ass end does look to say alittle!... sorry, just teasing! have a good and safe time on the water!

Thanks Bob

Bob,

Thanks! Its been a process. I got distracted a few times but in the end, like you said, I got what we wanted. We sold the U-205 because we wanted a boat that could fit in the garage, that had a wake tower and would still seat 8 people if we needed to. The Challenger 180Se with tower was the boat and I finally got one at a reasonable price. Now all thats left is to clean it up and make it mine.

Craig... congrats on finally getting a boat. I'm sure you will be much happier with the C180 than either of the stern-drive boats you considered. Now lets see a picture of it actually in the garage.

Aaron:cheers:

Your soooo right!

Jim,

I'm already enjoying the fact that its in my garage. So much nicer than having to worry about getting it back to storage. What a pain that was!

Craig

See..it's in your garage!...now you can work on it whenever you want!

:cheers::cheers::cheers:

HA!!! He called your SUV small. He might as well said you have a small… Ummm… wang.

I’m on the other side of that. I pull my 1500 Lbs of boat with a ¾ ton diesel truck that has a 14,000 Lb towing capacity. I can’t even feel it back there. (like a midget and a fat woman)

Once a gain… congrats on the new boat.

When you throwing it in the water?? I wanted to go out today with mine… but it’s raining. :(

Tony,

Its gonna have to wait till next weekend as I've got a million things to do today.

The good news is the Intake grate is back on. I learned at the end of the process that its easier than I thought. If you pretty much lay on the engine and stick you head all the way into the rear of the engine compartment and look down and forward(towards bow), you can see the bolt with a light. Once I got to this point install was simple.

Forget what I said about not attempting this project. In retrospect its actually easier than first thought. I saved a week or more of dealer time and probably a hundred dollars. Not to mention that I now have something to offer other challenger 180 owners. The more we know....the more we know.
