Has anyone ever thought about putting the 185hp, HO Yamaha engine into a Speedster 150/Sportster 4-Tec Hull? I know that is far from being anywhere close to feasible, but it is a non SC engine and is pretty fast from what I can tell. Being that Sea Doo has the market on the small jet boats, I am not really sure why Yamaha has not tried to pursue this. They now have the 190, which is a nice add in to compete with the C180, but nothing below that.
I know people have put Sea Doo engines in Yamaha skis before, but that was before this HO engine and before Yamaha really got into the SC game. I saw a Youtube video,(below), that had three dealers doing a drag race and the HO Yamaha VXR beat the 260hp RXT-X consistently. It would just be nice to have that power and not have to worry about your supercharger blowing up and causing major engine damage. I guess that is an advantage of having one more cylinder in the engine, which I do not see Sea Doo doing any time soon. Maybe it is in Skunk works at Bombardier.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Sea Doo and think they make a great looking and great boat all around, but it would be nice to have a good reliable and more powerful non SC version of the 155hp engine. As a matter of fact, while i think Yamaha makes a good looking boat as well, there is just something stale about the design, where Sea Doo has always been at the front of the line in terms of design, IMO. But Yamaha has always been known a little more for their reliability.
Yamaha may have been able to come up with the HO version bc of their outboard engines they have made for years. There is also a HO version, called the VMAX SHO and the jet engines are very similar to an outboard engine, so maybe the technology was already there for them to develop this engine and transition it into a jet engine. Evinrude, owned by Bombardier has a HO line, but it is a 2 stroke.
If only I had an endless supply of money I would try it out just bc I could... I would love to hear thoughts, as I am sure there are opinions on this either way.
