I picked up a 96 xp, clearly has a sticker on it that states to run seadoo synthetic. """not sure what that heck is in it"" maybe yamalube considering the other jetski the previous owner had was a yamaha. Now 2 summers ago i also picked up 97 xp that also has a 787 rotax oil injection blah blah blah with the sticker on it that says use seadoo sythetic 2 stroke. So in 2007 when I snaged this xp and asked a local brp dealer what i should run in it, he told me to just run the regular xps mineral oil in it?? is that ok. also with this 96 should i pump out this """mystery""" oil and what should i run in it??? i dont like switching

Seadoo dealership mechanics!....

Now ain't they just the smartest people in the world. This isn't the first time I've heard this being said.

Your motor is suppose to be using synthetic. What gets me here is the one true piece of important info that all mechanics should now. If you are unsure of the oil type, change it all out to synthetic. You can go from mineral to synthetic but you can not go from synthetic to mineral.

Your motor is a 96, 787cc. I'd recommend you go to Walmart and look for the Quicksilver "full synthetic" in the automotive section. I buy it by the gallon to save on cost.

The only real oil requirement BRP puts in the manuals is that the oil be a non NMMA, non TCW-3 type low ash content oil. On the back of the synthetic Quicksilver bottle, it states that it's approved by Seadoo. I've used it now for 2 years and my plugs are buring nice and clean. I do not have a Seadoo dealer near by, so I don't have a big choice to choose from........

You should drain your rotary chamber and main oil line to the VROI pump. But, I'd not worry about the small injectors. Just add six gallons of oil to your tank with a mix of 50:1 and run it. By the time you go through that six gallons, the small injector lines will be primed with the good oil........

Quicksilver

:agree: I agree with snipe i have my 96 seadoo XP with the 787cc Rotax i use quicksilver full synthetic and it works for me. I don't have any problems with it and it's a little cheaper than Seadoo XP full synthetic.

The big plus!....

The big plus is when you pull your plugs and you see how clean they are running.......

thanks
so what about the 97 xp that i dont have oil injection on, i always premixed using xps mineral oil, it has the block off plate. can i convert it back too sythetic quick silver?

yes....

Yes, you shouldn't have been using the mineral oil in the first place.

Because you used the mineral oil, I'd go to the Quick Silver "synthetic blend" oil, not the "full synthetic". That's because you've already worn the engine in with the mineral.

You can go from mineral to synthetic but not vice versa.

Make sure you choose the correct Quick Silver oil. They make severl types for all Mercury products.

It must not be a TCW-3 or NMMA oil type. Look in the automotive section of Wally World and you'll find it by the gallon. Once you find the "synthetic blend", read the back. If it's approved for use in Seadoo's, it'll say so on the list of PWC's that can run it.

Now, don't go changin oil anymore. It's bad for the motor.

The big oil debate...

I personally only believe in using the SeaDoo synthetic oil. SeaDoo did a study years back showing cylinder and piston wear of some of the competitors synthetic oils after so many hours of use vs. their seadoo oil, don't remember name brands they were were and I'm sure this is was an ad campaign trying to justify their high priced oil but it is a proven winner. Just not worth the risk to me. I fix lots of issues when other oils are used.

You can buy it by the case(3 gallons) for around $100 and have it shipped UPS, I ship it all the time.

Yes, that's the retail cost. But there are other sources who sell for less, not sure what the rules are on this sight with regards to parts suppliers and I don't know if this sight has that oil for sale directly or indirectly through their sponsors, so please remove this if it violates any rules.

Parker Yamaha sells for $34.50 a gallon and there are others I've seen for $99/case of 3. Unfortuneately, it's heavy to ship so that can add more $.
