Original problem would not idle changed fuel, fuel lines cleaned carbs, starts revs high now pull the key and keeps on running have to turn fuel off to stop, but still wont idle at low rpm, any ideas?

Rebuilt to the manual which is basically where they were, i think my original problem was the fuel tap as this was jammed solid half open and full of crud restricting fuel flow, i realise it will run higher revs out of the water but this way to fast,

Stripped carbs again found a few bits of crap in the filters but not enough to stop it running, reset idle screws 1 turn out, runs but wont idle, did leak test and pop off test all seems ok, slackened idle adjustment screw started to improve and then get worse again, can't seem to find happy medium.

If the engine keeps running when you pull the key, then you got something igniting the combustion in the cylinders other than the spark of the spark plugs. It might just be carbon build up. Have you checked/changed your spark plugs??

Re set carbs today, it runs ok need to pull choke out half way to keep it idleing sugesting to much air or lean fuel but still can't adjust it to idle normally, another problem is the battery dies after a few attempts at starting, ( new battery starter and plugs fitted).i know i havent run it long enough possiblyto replace charge, but got to keep the noise down to keep neigbours happy.
Yours frustrated.

Xp 97 still won't idle all carbs set to previous answer, seems to be getting to much air, pullying choke out, seems to let it idle but not fast enough, anyone any idear's,
sorted problem with battery earth cable to starter corroded copper core almost powder.
