I have an 01 XP and was wondering how to tell if this is a ltd or not? I've read some people who have Xp's and some have XP ltd. Whats the difference and how can I tell what I have? Thank you
John

Limited?........

John, welcome to the forum.

Your 2001 model XP is the standard XP with the 951 engine.

The XP in 1997 used the 787 engine. In 1998, they went to their first limited. This was the first XP using the 951 engine. They designated it the XPL in 1998 and the XP Limited in 1999. After that, all 2 stroke XP's are the 951 engines.........so, if your friends are riding a "Limited", they must have either a 1998 or 99. So, you got one up on them; yours is newer!:cheers:

Thanks for the quick reply. It explains it perfect. Is there any difference in performance in the Ltd's compared to mine or just the name?

Your is better...

Well, technically, they are the same. But, in the first few years they were developed, there were a few problems. But, I'm sure by now, those buddies you have that got this engine, have it running well.........

Their is a couple things different that I believe give you the edge, stock. The two years I looked at was yours, the 2001 and the 1998. The stroke is the same, 6.1:1 and the weight is equal at 815 lbs.(dry). But your carbs have bigger main jets at 162.5 and the 1998 at 160. The other change I noticed is the impeller. Yours is a 15*-21* pitch and the 98 model has a 14*-21*..........which really isn't enough to make any real difference.

But, in my opinion, when it comes down to racing? It's all in the way the driver handles it. So many times, races are won on the drivers ability, not just raw power.....................
