I want to buy a 951 xp. I see that the newer ones are fuel injected.
Does any one know if these have any mechanical issues related to the injection. Would I be better off with an older non injected one or not?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

951 XP is a good choice...

the 03 and 04s were direct injected, while the 98-02 were carb models. The DIs are a great smooth running motor in my opinion and are very reliable with proper maintenance, they did have some issues with fuel pumps which are expensive. they get much better gas mileage than their carb counterparts. The carb models are also very reliable and are easier to work on, less high tech and overall less expensive. Either way is a good choice IMO.

Hopefully others will chime in with their opinions.

Look for one that's in original condition and has not been messed with mechanically by amateurs. I made the mistake of buying an 01' XP that had been "modified" by an idiot who had no clue what they were doing. $850 later, and its still not running!

951 is a great engine

I have a 99 XP with the 951 and I love it, aside from a current issue with the starter. It is oil injection, but not fuel injected. It seems to me that the less technical the ski, the cheaper it is to fix.

I agree with StRanger, stay away from any ski that is modified, especially one converted from oil injection to premix because usually whoever did it didn't take care of the ski well enough to keep the oil injection working correctly.

One other thing, all of the bragging about 4-stroke fuel economy is way overblown. Sure, if you ride WOT all the time on a 2-stroke you'll burn up the gas in an hour or so, but who does that? I pull a tube all day (5-6 hours) and still have gas left for next time.

I traded our 01 XP and 00 RX for a pair of 03 GTX SC. Sure, the thing is a little more complex but I think to get out of carburetors and 2 strokes, it is worth it. Those happen to be 2 of the things I hate in an engine. 2 strokes and carburetors.
