Would bad magneto stop starter from kicking in all the way ?

Just wanted to check before i send starter out to be repaired. I crossed selonoid post and starter turns but does not engage flywheel. i have new battery fully charged so im sure its good. we know or think we do that magneto is bad as when we unplug it the 5 amp fuse does not blow and plug it in and it blows...I dont think a bad magneto will stop starter from engaging flywheel but im new to these seadoos and just wanted to be sure before i send it out...normally bad battery or weak battery or just bad starter is only thing i know that will stop starter from engaging when selonoid crossed ( i have been known to be wrong tho hehe )

Looks like i have several issues with this 97 GTI 717. I have no power anywhere thru jetski. Have replaced 15 amp fuse by selonoid that was blown. then 5 amp fuse started blowing...unplugged wires that I THINK go to magneto and fuse stops blowing...I get no beeps when lan key attached ( hope thats right term for it ) no dash no fuel gauge nothing,,,got starter already off gonna get it rebuilt. but just was curious about suggestions for repairs or to troubleshoot this critter hehe...im going to get it working and running correctly if it takes a Year lol...i took pics of unplugge connection to make sure its to the magneto ill post it on here...i also took pics of fuse box. there is only 2 fuses in there a 15 amp in bottom port and right above that is a 5 amp ( the one that blows ) room for more fuses but not sure if anymore belong in the box. Im still waiting for prem. membership to be approved so i can get to the manuals so figured until then if you guys ( and gals ) dont mind ill post a few questions...thanks in advance ill try to get pic up now

if starter spins and does not engage, the bendix is probably sticking to the shaft. it is centrifugal, like a car starter from the fifties. motor spins, and bendix spirals up the shaft to the flywheel. probly just needs freeing up and lubing.

OK i took starter and with it off ski used jumper cables from the battery and used them on starter it spins very fast but does not kick out like it would to engage flywheel.

Talked with local dealer or service area and a guy there said there is something else that makes the starter engage the flywheel and if starter is turning then it is good ?...hehe now i am confused. I assumed it worked like any other starter that i have ever used but again these jetski's are new to me. I made sure and asked him again that if starter turns fast but will not kick out to engage the flywheel it is ok ?. he told me that was correct and that there was something else behind the flywheel that will make it engage and that it was prob bad. I know you guys here have nothing to gain but to just be friendly and offer help. Of course dealer has something to gain if i bring it in...he did tell me that if magneto was plugged in and it blew fuse ( he called it a stater ) that is was surely bad...again sorry to bother but i am confused

Little background so you guys dont think im an Idiot hehe...i have 7 years Experience as a diesel Mech and about same on Automobile...of course this was years ago but on models of my age hehe i can still rebuild engine ( at least with a good manual hehe...thanks again for advice and help...look forward to these ski's for many years to come :hurray:

I am not positive but looking at your type of starter I would say that it should throw bendix out when it spins and spring on top should help push bendix back down I would free it up with wd40 or somthing and then add another good type of oil to keep it lubed and not stick agin. good luck
