Working in the Engine Compartment

I have a 97 Speedster and working in the engine compartment is a pain in the you know what. The simplest of thing take so long when you can't reach them!
Do most people remove the hatch to do work? Anyone rig some type of platform? How do the dealers/boat mechanics do it?

I just removed my hatch to repaint it and when it was off, I did some minor engine tune ups. Having the hatch off did make it easier but getting the thing off and on was also a challenge too.

If I have to do anything other than change the spark plugs and winterize the hatch is removed
