Hello all,

Finally got a chance to take out my challenger with 250HP optimax swap for the maiden voyage. I am very impressed with the boat, topped out at 59 MPH, no smoke (using DFI OIL). Great 1st boat for me, NOT impressed with a slow speed turning for trying to retrieve the boat looked like a clown trying to get it on the trailer.

Decided to get rid of the stock reverse bucket and went with a Wooldridge Reverse Bucket, let me tell you world difference when you turn, back your backing up, getting the boat to stop @ some speed. The downfall is the bucket is a bit heavier than a stock one, once you put the gear selector in forward/reverse it does not let you move the throttle. You have to push the gear selector fwd while moving the throttle with other hand.

Has anyone else ran across this issue, if so how did you fix it.
Can you adjust the fwd/rev cable to resolve this issue?
I was thinking about trimming the detent cable portion under the shifter? To allow throttle to work

Anyone use or have same issues

also in my journey to get boat going i acquired some extra parts here is link

You may just need to re-adjust the cable a little. When the bucket is in the "Forward" position, there should be a catch holding it. SO... there shouldn't' be any weight on the cable once up.

But I agree. The OEM bucket isn't very good. That's why I yanked the throttle guardian. So now, I can rev up the engine in reverse.

DR HONDA, THE THROTTLE GUARDIAN? WHAT IS THAT? I CAN REV ENGINE TO 6500rpm I REVERSE IF NEED BE. HAVEN'T DONE IT HOPEFULLY NOR WILL NEED TO.

WILL TRY ADJUSTMENT OF CABLE THIS WEEK. IS THERE ALSO A THREAD ON HOW TO ADJUST RIDE PLATE? TO EITHER HAVE BOAT PLANE QUICKER OR SLOWER? ALSO SO BOAT TRACKS STRAIGHT?

THANKS!

Doc is pretty much God when it comes to the Merc powered boats. The Guardian is a box that is on Mercs that limits RPMs when shifting through the various positions. They fail and seem to affect the normal running of the engine. Most disconnect them and problem solved. They are kind of a carry over from out drive type engines.

Yep.... no reason to yell. (turn off the cap lock)

Anyway.... OK... if you can rev up in reverse... then you don't have a guardian.

I don't think there is a thread on the adjusting the ride plate... but it's simple. Lower it to push the nose down... raise it to lift the nose. Too much in either direction will cause it to bounce.
