Won’t start

I have a 2001 SeaDoo GTS that I bought from someone who destroyed the wiring harness. I replaced the harness and when you hook the key up it beeps like normal and when you hit the start button it just clicks at the stater solenoid. I changed the solenoid with a new one but it still just clicks, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the solenoid May be ok if it’s clicking, check the grounds into the engine block, with a multimeter see if your getting volts to the starter, may be internally corroded cable to the starter or starter itself. Have you tried crossing the posts in the solenoid with a screwdriver?

Before doing any of the above, take the spark plugs out and ground the plug wires, try crankin it over like this first. If it doesn’t crank over, try rolling it by hand at the PTO with plugs out

Also, if you didn't buy an OEM unit , the solenoid could be bad out the box! I bought two off market ones before I got a used OEM. One of them caused my engine to keep turning the starter over no matter what, I had to pull battery!! There is an Ohms check you can do on it to verify it is good.

So I checked with a meter at the solenoid and have 12 volts and then I checked at the starter while hitting the start button and I get 12 volts at the starter and the solenoid still just clicks. I also took a grinder and ground the spot where ground goes and still just clicks at solenoid and 12 volts at starter, any help would be great thank you

Your getting volts to the starter, looks like your going to need a new starter. It turns over easily by hand right?

Your are probably right but I have seen new batteries be bad...its an easy thing to get tested and I would want to rule it out, while you are hunting down the issue, plus it is cheaper than buying a starter!

Well that same battery fired up my other 2 skis so I believe that rules the battery out

Jump the solenoid with a screwdriver. That will send power directly from the battery to the starter. If it doesn't spin the starter then the starter is bad.
99.9% of aftermarket starters are junk. If you still have an OEM starter then install new brushes and that is typically all they need.

Yup it’s an aftermarket starter and I did jump the solenoid and it didn’t even spark or turn the starter over, so I will start with the starter and go from there
