winterizing: ground engine mode on boats?

On all the jet ski write ups you can flush and fog by holding throttle wide open which shuts off fuel and spark. How can this be achieved on boats which do not allow starting with throttle anywhere but in low speeds?

I just did mine kept it in neutral moved the throttle to full and turned the engine over after fogging the engine I have bypassed the neutral safety switch because it went bad and I never changed it.

So if I"m understanding you correctly the process works and is the same (full throttle) if the N switch is bypassed?

I'm have tempted todo a by pass too. My switch has a sweet spot that just had to be perfect and it's actually more trouble...so it's prob on the way out.

Is it just a matter of pulling up the throttle assembly and jumping the connection or is there another process?

Why are you flushing in drown mode, this sounds like a bad idea to me. The engine must be running while flushing.

And that throttle controller interlock design is nothing short of bizarre.

Yeah that wasn't worded well at all...I simply met I was doing winterizing and EVERYWHERE they talk about that mode for fogging, compression testing, etc...but no mention anywhere of how to preform this on a boat.

So any idea if there is another way to trigger a non spark/fuel situation w/o removal of the N switch?

Yes. Leave throttle in neutral. Hold throttle, on engine itself, to full, hold and press the start button. This will turn the engine over with no fuel and spark. It is called drown mode. It is for when you change the oil and want to turn the engine to get the rest out...

Thanks...makes total sense now that you state it but sounds like a two person job...no? Or can someone with normal arms reach both?

Just curious too...is there a way to trigger this with the CAN DOO? Hope to pick one up this winter and may do it before then if it's got a drown mode feature.

Another idea to disable fuel is disconnect fuel pump connector at tank, I think? If ignition coils are removed there will be no spark but still need to shut off fuel by fuel pump disable.

My neutral switch was going so that was a simple fix for me you also want to circulate the fogging oil after spraying it down the injector holes for storage.
