I have a 2003 Islanda with the 240EFI Mercury M2 Jet Drive. Anyone have instructions on the steps to winterize it. I have done my sterndrives before, but never a jet.

Winterizing the M2 Jet drive!

Hello Thunder and welcome back to the forum!
It's that time of the year for us to get the boats ready for storage. By storing properly, we will protect our boats and have them ready quickly in spring when it's time to break them out for the fun of summer!....

We have posted the procedures for most of the Seadoo Rotax engines, but this is specific to the M2 Jet drive systems.

1. Premix gas with a 25:1 ratio (32 fl. oz of Mercury Premium oil to 6 gallons of gasoline) to either a temporary tank or your permanant tank. DO NOT USE FUEL CONTAINING EHTANOL OR METHANOL.
2. To this add; Double the recommended amout of fuel stabilizer.
3. Run the engine for a minimum of 10 minutes at about 1500 rpm, remove the fuel hose or shut of the fuel supply and let the engine run till out of gas.
4. The above procedure will protect the internal componets during storage.
5. Drain and fill the stator assembly with Quick Silver high performance gear lube.
6. Clean the engine thoroughly, including all accesible powerhead parts and spray with corrosion and rust preventive. (I use Cosomoline)
7. Lubricate and grease all fittings.
8. Store battery in an area to protect it from freezing. (caution, batteries give off explosive acid vapors, especially while charging)

That's basically it!.....this information comes to you directly from the M2 shop manual......Now, enjoy the winter time!.......:hat:

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the great info Snipe. Wasn't there anything about getting anti-freeze into the cooling system?

Good question?

That's a good question?.....
I didn't see anything on the M2 that stated to run anti freeze through the engine. But I think the reason may be because with the engine out of the water, the engine drains all the engine coolant by the nature of gravity.....design of the engine looks like there is no liquids above below the drain.....I'll double check to make sure though.........O.K...I've gone back in to make sure I didn't miss anything and no, there isn't anything on protecting the cooling system for storage. I did go and look at the exploded view of the cooling system flow path and it does seem to be set up that all fluids drain out of the engine and pump by gravity when the boat is out of the water. But other than that, the M2 engine manual has no further instructions on winterizing.
