Yes you read that correctly. Apparently you need to winterize your wake tower in Canada. Let me explain.

I was in my yard getting things ready for our first big snow fall yesterday. We have had several days of cold weather a week ago but the last few days had been nice. As I was looking at my boat something caught my eye. So I go up to the boat and upon inspection there is a big 7 inch gash in my wake tower. I was like WTF happened since my boat is in the middle of the yard nothing could have hit it. There is no other damage on the boat. So I started to think what could have happened to cause this.

Here is a photo......
tower split.jpg

Now after looking at it I was like wow their must have been water in it and it froze. Now I thought well surely their are drain holes in the bottom of the pipe. Took a look and no holes? I'm thinking lets see if there is water in it below the split? Only one way to find out. Grabbed the drill and a bit and popped a hole in the bottom of the split pipe and out comes 3 cups of water. So now I'm thinking wow what if the other side has water in it too? It will split too. So I drill a hole in it to and out comes a rush of water almost 20 cups. It must have been full to the top.

The boat I'm hopping had the 5 year warranty on it so I hope seadoo will make good on it. But wow no where in the manual does it say to winterize your wake tower. The other owner had the boat in BC where the winters don't get cold. This is why it did not bust before. But the fist start of our Alberta cold killed it. Moral of my winded story here is check your tower for drain holes if it has none and you are in the cold make them.

Well the dealer in my area has been super they are staying on seadoo to get it warrentied. No word yet but I should know in a few days.

Ok just got the news seadoo is telling me the tower is not covered under warranty????????????????????????? Need help anyone know who I could contact at BRP for help. This is clearly a manufacture defect and my boat still is in warranty.

That is amazing to me.

We have some individuals here that are closely tied to BRP. Maybe one of them can give good direction.

Very sorry to hear it is not covered.

Funny thing is I called BRP and they state I need to take my boat to the dealer the dealer says they don't want it. AGGGGGGhhhhh and im stuck in the middle. Why do they even bother giving you a warranty when they will not honor it. Very frustrating. My next step is to get media involved.

Hope someone here can hook me up with a person to have a fair conversation with at BRP.

Do you have another dealer in your vicinity? Ask them the same questions, it wouldnt be the first time someone gets 2 different answers from 2 different dealer. Even if you can send them a picture of the damage and where it is leaking in from.

Thanks Kicker......

Tried another dealer and he said the tower is not covered in the additional warranty. But he did say if I bring him the cracked part of the tower and he can prove it was a flaw he may be able to get seadoo to make good on it. The good news is the part of the tower that split is a stocked part and its only $370.00. The other dealer did not even mention that its a replaceable part. Still ticks me off if I have to pay but at least its not the whole tower.

Well done, hopefully BRP will cover it. Where you able to get a hold of the manufacturer of the tower?

Those Darn Canadian winters are hard on equipment.

No matter the end result.

Once you get it fixed if drill holes to ensure drainage.

I bet you could drill into the base where it meets the boat for that matter. You'd never see it if so.

I store all my toys in the garage, no matter how bad of the weather, nothing could hurt them.

Now that's a toy shop!

Good idea with the rubber donut tied to that clip. A boat fender attached to the cleats are pretty useless on the Speedster since they hang too low and are curved in from the dock.

Wives are totally irrational when it comes to toys. I have a double heated garage, perfect for my Porsche and boat right? But noooo, wife wants her car inside as we'll in winter so it is not all cold and buried in snow in the mornings!!! Sheesh, had to put the boat in storage :(

My wife is SUPER cool when it comes to my toys..

My Skis are normally in the garage which means my Lexus and her Convertible Mustang are in the drive ...

I did store them this year as there are some projects I want to do and need the garage. Cars are still in the drive though,,, LOL

I used to laugh at those 4 garage McMansions!

If I get another house, definitely! 2 cars, a boat, and a project area indoors are a must with harsh winters!

I will NEVER own another home without at least a two car garage. But I would want/need a 4-car garage.

I built a second 2.5 garage behind my present home which gives me 4. cars of storage.. LOL
