Should i get my boat wrap or buy a big tarp for the winter i live in montreal canada we get a lot of snow. Thanks

With lots of snow I would shrink wrap it. The wrapper should put in 3-4 poles with ties across each of them to keep a stiff "tent" design. He should also put in 2 air vents for a boat. Tell him to overlap the sides a little more than usual.

If you are careful with removing it next yr you can use it for 2-3 yrs. You may have to "tighten" it a bit each yr but it should hold up. Just don't cut the straps off in the Spring, take your time and unknot them, save the poles and straps too. In Michigan most guys charge $6-$8 a foot for boats and more for pontoons (got to use a wider sheet).

Personally I think you're better off with the tarp, or better yet a good boat cover, or both. The problem with shrink wrap is it traps water inside the boat, because there's no place for the water to escape. I would also put a couple of tubs of Damp Rid inside the boat. That's my opinion and I'm sure you'll get others.

I store my boat actually on the lake on a lift, our lake doesn't freeze over, the slip is covered and I just use the boat cover, not real tight and I use the damp rid. I've never had any mold or mildew, almost as good as storing the boat indoors. We also don't get much snow here.

When I owned my boat, I bought my own torch and wrap material, (27 foot Searay Cruiser).

I would get 3 years per wrap out of it.

If you wrap it, get a bag of CHEAP charcoal, the kind with no coating or EZ-lighting coating on it. Place a plastic bag on the deck, then the charcoal bag on top of it. Slice the bag wide open and let it be. The charcoal will absorb odor and water. When you open the boat back up, slide the charcoal into the plastic garbage bag. If you want, you can use the charcoal for a grill still. I used new charcoal every year just because it was cheap and I wanted it to work well.

Lou, you have a different storage weather than Michigan or Canada. You also keep the hoist canopy on for added protection. Shrink wrap is water proof and no water should get inside. I usually leave my drain plug out and tied to the steering wheel and tilt the trailer up so in case the wrap splits for some reason any water will run into the bilge. I can see where mold could happen to you as the temps will flex up & down. For us once winter sets in the temps will stay 35F and below. I sometimes put a small baggie of moth ball crystals in case a little critter wants to crawl in...(never has happened).

My boat is on the right and my neighbors in on the left, the 2 skis are also his. I'm able to keep mine in a shed I built.
