Lost compression and made some aluminum deposits on my spark plugs in my 01 XP. Found someone local with a fresh 96 XP motor.

Compatibility? Looks like it is 20 less hp?

Any ideas.

Thanks.

No......not easily

No, this change would require modifications that would cost more than just putting the correct engine back in.

A newly remanafactured engine for your XP (the 951cc) would run you about $1200 bucks with a one year, no fault warranty. The 96 XP uses the 787cc engine. Which that motor is a really nice and strong motor, you'll notice huge power loses if you go from the larger engine to the smaller.

Also, the MPEM of the 951 has the rectifier/regulator built into it. The 787 electrical system does not. So, if the charging system is messed up in the 787, at least it's a cheap fix. The 951 requires you replace the entire MPEM.

Theres only ONE way that would make sence. If you had a very rare Rotax 945R engine. That thing pulled harder than an X4 with a 951 bored out using Factory Pipe twins. Seriously an awesome engine. So, if your using one of those by all means go ahead. Then again.. that would mount right into an X4 hull with no fabrication needed! ;)
