So the Misses wants to get rid of the Challenger 1800 and get a pontoon boat. She is growing weary of me and my heavy hand on the throttles plus she wants more room for the Grandkids.
I want to keep my boat because I enjoy it and enjoy pulling the grandkids around on the tube.

After some thought and searching, I think I have come up with a solution:

What do you guys think?? :lols:

THe easy solution is to buy 2 boats. LOL !!

OK... I understand. But it's kind of like committing to a Mini-Van. Normally... people don't want them... but it fits their life at the time.

I was also on the fence with it. I wanted more room, and the amenities of a "Pontoon" boat... but I didn't want to give up the performance of a sport boat. So... I went on a search for an Islandia. It's a big, 12 passenger mod-V hull, with a 240 or 250 HP Mercury... OR, up to 430 HP with twin rotax. It has a sink, lot's of storage, a changing room with a potty, shower, and a kiddy pool with a fountain. (that's if you want to stick with Seadoo)

But... like in your vid... there are tripple pontoon boats that can run very fast. Or... there is a bunch of "SportDeck" type boats made by regular sport boat manufactures.

I hate to say it... but keeping the wife happy, means keeping a boat of some kind. But... there is always a compromise.

So when are you picking up the pontoon boat?

You KNOW she will win this right,,,

I agree with the two boat method.

That is a nice Boat Tony!

jesse, all`s I can offer is you have to do what is important in the "now". A pontoon would be easier, per say, outboard, start and go...
wash down when done.

Looking back, when I had several choices but chose this challenger that was supposed to be ready to ride, I would have chosen something else. I really don`t have any regrets bc it is running good now but took a lot of resources and most importantly unnecessary time
away from my family, which wasn`t my intention.
The fact of the matter is any moment these umpteen years older boats can break down, and it is always something even with a well maintained boat. we all understand that.
So I`m going to say, if you can get into a new or very good used Pontoony and keep the misses happy and enjoy life with the little ones, it is well worth it sir... you would find the same joy just from the smiles on there face...

Good luck with your decision my friend

I am not in a position financially to afford anything other that I have now.
Would't it be cool to be the old man launching your tri tune while people are sizing you up kind of snickering at the wake tower until you crank up that V8 power and leave a rooster tail across the lake. :)

By the way the Misses says "no way" on the 525hp V8. :(

Doc,
There is a 2006 Islandia 310hp forsale here. $22,500 Good deal??

That's about the going price for a 2006/2007. I personally like the '06/'07 boat. Twin 4-stroke rotax, but no superchargers to worry about. That's actually what I wanted to buy... but in PA... we only have 4 to 6 months... and the thought of making a payment on the months it was in storage, was killing me. The boat itself is the same upper deck as mine. The lower hull changed to accommodate the 4-tec engines, and they say it has less bow rise. (but mine isn't bad at all)

I completely understand your position...my wife would love a pontoon boat! I hear it almost every year. I've kept her at bay with "we don't have a place to store a pontoon" (my Utopia fits in the garage) and "we'd need to live on the water to have a pontoon, they're tough to transport".

With that said, she loves the Utopia (still would prefer a pontoon though) and enjoys watersports so that helps a lot with keeping the Utopia around.

I think Tony has the right answer...two boats! Or, two boats in one...the Islandia! Half jet boat and half pontoon boat...everybody wins!

Good luck and keep the old adage in mind...happy wife, happy life!

That's it!!! I will tell Her: "Baby we don't have the room to store a pontoon. Also, in order to have one, we would have to buy lakefront property and you know how expensive that is." What do you think?? Maybe it will work.

I kept waiting for the front of the pontoon in the video to get enough air under it that it lifted off/flipped/lost control. Yikes! It's like a big wing!

REALLY hard to argue with the Islandia option.

Not a fan of the two boats option though (although that is what I have :) ) Two boats means 2 sets of everything to maintain... and you can only drive one at a time anyway.

Worst case, you get a pontoon until the grandkids are a little bigger and want a little more excitement, then go for an Islandia, or whatever the best option is at that time.

Nice looking Boat Doc!

LOL, I can't believe I'm reading this. My father would tell you that you need to practice self-castration. Just pull them out and cut them off. Keep the Challenger. Here you go, here's her Pontoon

You can even let her drive this one while you hang on the sofa.

Yep... and the bottom pic could be built for a few hundred $$. Or... just liberate someone's dock. (lol)

Since you already know who's gonna win this argument, just do what I do, just say "yes dear".

BTW I have a pontoon, they make a great platform for PWC's.
