I have having some issues. As stated in past threads my dealer who sold me my 2008 Challenger 180 went out of business. They were about 45 minutes away from me. Now the next closest deal is like over 2 hours away. I need a 10 hour service and want to get the washers replaced and winterization and I have called a dozen local marinas in my area. half of them wont service jet boats. The other half have looked into what the 10 hour services is etc and have recommended I take it to a brp service center. Basically not interested. I had my boat winterized by a local service place last year. The guy was nice. I contacted him this year about doing the 10 hour etc and he has been blowing me off. I dont know what it is but now I am starting to get upset that I am having such a hard time getting this work done. I guess its my fault from not doing my homework before purchasing a Seedoo in my area. Anybody by chance know anyone in the southern new jersey region that will do this service? as far as dealers, Sea Isle is the closest but still a hike. Next is either Bristol PA or Wilmington DE. I am lookign for somethign closer to the philadelphia area. Thanks

You can try J and J Marine in Sewell. They will be winterizing my Utopia but that has the Merc engine. Not sure if they work on Sea Doo engines. The guy seems to know what he is doing. They also shrink wrap for $8 a foot.

Well, I gave J&J in Sewell a call. They can only do winterizations. Any work like a 10 hour service they will not do becaus ethey are not certified. I am forced to goto J&J Power sports in Wilmingtion Delaware. I am sure they can do it. Its just a hike.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I know the dealer you purchased from, I used to work there, and was fortunate enough to get out of there a couple of months before they shut their doors. I have since opened my own business, and can take care of your boat for you, plus I'm just around the corner from you :). I am a fully certified & trained BRP technician. You are not obligated to take your boat to a dealership for the 10 hour service. Feel free to give me a call @ (609)440-7845.

Dealer / Service

I recommend J & J Power Sport in Wilmington DE. Jim is the owner and CJ is one of the techs. Both are good guys. Very easy to get there just off 95.

The reason your being blown off is probably cause they aren't certified. When you get this service, it's put on the computer that is using a VCK (vehicle communication kit) interface for the B.U.D.S. (bombardier utility diagnostic software). When they do this, they get a reading on your engines performance for the past 10 hours. It's all stored in memory. Any adjustments needed in your ignition or fuel injection system are done then. In checking your oil, they are responsible to certify your oil does not show signs of bearing failure. This is most important in the super charged engines.

Anyone other than a certified BRP mechanic may void your warranty. I've seen that happen twice this year, one a 2008, the other a 2009. So be careful who you take your boat to and I would def make sure they are BRP certified and that they are using the B.U.D.S. system. BRP will not accept substitutes.............sorry your having a hard time with it.

Service Manager lives in South Hampton

I know the Service Manager who used to work at the dealership to which you are refering. He lives in South Hamprton and bought out the sevice inventory. He is trying to make a run at this business himself. 6094964701

I finally got all my work done. Jet Set Performance did a great job and Derrick certainaly knows his stuff. Got my 10 hour service and winterization along with the clutch washers replaced in the supercharger. Cant wait till next season. I got some great performance upgrade ideas I am hoping to get done.

Wow, that's great. I see Derrick is pretty new, with only a few posts but when he saw your troubles and was familar with that specific dealer, he stepped up to the plate to help you out. That's great. That's what the forum is all about.

He obviously has a reasonable labor rate because you do seem really overjoyed that you got your work done and now, talking about some performance upgrades.

Kudo's to Derrick for helping the members of Seadooforum.....

clutch washers at the 10 hour service ? I was thinking they needed to be inspected at 50 and replaced between 80 and 100 ? Or am I thinking of other washers ?

Your right..

Yeah, your right. With all the problems with the ceramic washers, everyone was changing them out the last few years with their 10 hour service. Just realized, this is a 2008. There are no ceramic washers in this boat. He must have had a reason though........if nothing else, satisfaction.

2008 was a strange year for Sea Doo. ALL of the supercharged PWC's recieved the titanium coated steel clutch washers, while the entire supercharged sport boat line up retained the ceramic clutch washers. When speaking with the techs at the BRP tech support lines, they explained that the sport boats weren't subjected to the same "harsh" riding enviroment as the pwc's were (loading & unloading of the jet pump, etc...), and BRP, in their infinate wisdom used all remaining inventory of ceramic clutch washers in the sport boats "thinking" there would be minimal failure rate. From the 2009 model year forward, the titanium coated steel clutch washers are used in all sport boat & pwc's. Hope this helps clear things up a bit:)

Makes sense....

Yeah, that makes sense. If you figure that most of the failures were from getting air and not letting off the throttle, unhooking the pump then re-loading. So, yeah, I can see where they'd do that. I did think they did the 2008 but I'll remember, it's the 2009 models. But, like you said, all the PWC's were running the steel washers in 08, right?

all the PWC's were running the steel washers in 08, right?

Correct. And along with that came the supercharger maintainence program, initiated by BRP which requires a complete supercharger overhaul at or as close to 100 hours as possible. That, I can see their logic, especially after seeing a good share of shaft bearing failures... not pretty.
