I put in a new solas impeller and now it rubs against my wear ring with one of the blades. It is just that one and it is just in one spot but I have no freaking idea why it is rubbing, will I ruin it if I put it in like that. My old wear ring looked really bad, is there something more to this?

I am suprised a new solas impeler is doing that. It sounds like one of the impeller blades is a litle off if it is only one. It allso sounds like you may have corosion under your new wear ring unless the new wear ring is allso deformed. I find all of this hard to believe. I can always be wrong so wait for other responces. good luck Robin

I am sure that every one knew that, as it does not look like a new impeller. but that wear ring looks new with that bad impeller. Did someone try to save money? or did that damage happen after new wear ring?

Haha I am SURE most of you would know that is a pic of the old impeller just thought I would make certain for some people. But that wear ring was in horrible shape, it had 2 huge ring rubs in it and you can see that in the picture if you look real hard. That impeller and wear ring are all original, my jet ski only has 45 hours but I just bought it. I am now regretting it, I got a hell of a steal on it from a super rich guy but it looks like severe lack of proper maintenance.

Back to the ?....its rubbing in one spot, is there a gap directly across, or all way around besides that one blade?

that one blade rubs in one spot every single time, and as I look across it does not appear to look any bigger of a gap. how weird is that? also that spot is directly below the screws but almost all the way towards the bottom. if I look at the impeller from the back in, I can see the white residue on the blade that grabs

take out pump. does the impeller rub same spot without driveshaft? if so, wear ring is probably a little high on that spot. plus, that 1 blade must be a little out. wear rings are plastic. i doubt they are machined to true them. it is possible something was still inside the case holding the ring up a hair also. i don't think it is possible to remove the wear ring to check and reinstall. if you have access to a different impeller to check, it might be worth a try. you might wanna return the impeller and get another. if you run the ski, the impeller will wear the ring down until it doesn't hit anymore. it can't wear it any farther unless you make like the previous owner and start running rocks through it. plus, if it wasn't for people like them, we wouldn't get the deals we get. unfortunately, we gotta undo the reasons they sell cheap after we get them.

If it is only rubbing a litle and you can still spinn the impeller with out great force I would spray some wd40 on the wear ring and start it up for a few seconds out of the water and then go and try it out. If it performs as it should I would not worry about it. I have read a few post on other forums that this has been done before.
