97 GTi with a nearly new engine….less than 10 hours. Oil was leaking into the engine over the winter. Cleaned it out, got it running ordered the shutoff valve, next time it sat for two weeks, emptied the oil tank into the engine. There are 3 lines which one gets the valve to prevent this? The one with the filter is what I assume buuut not 100% sure

Yep the one with the filter.
That's a hell of a leak. One that large might affect performance.

If your inner crank seals are leaking then you'll want to block the line that feeds the RV. The one with the filter goes to the oil pump.

Whiskey is correct,,,the line feeding the rot valve is leaking into the cylinders,,,put the shutoff valve on that one.

I got confused on which line myself. I saw a post where someone showed 1/2 barb fittings so I figured it was to go on the big line, which is the return line. I don't know if it proves that there is some kind of air leak on the return side, but my leak stops with use of the valve in the return line. My Supply line comes out of the bottom of the tank, and return goes to cap on top of the tank

Trying to figure out what I was drinking or smoking when I typed this. The one WITHOUT the fliter is the line that gets the valve.

I got a 2003 GTI RFI.... I put the valve in the line and it's still getting oil into the engine with the valve closed. I don't get it. I am considering installing another valve on the return line. The only way it could leak then is if it is sucking air from somewhere. If the leak is bad enough I guess it could do that. This is crazy. Ski runs too good to replace the crank. :)

Reviving this old thread. I want to fix the oil leak, engine has 10 hours or so since overhaul. Other than the crank seals is there any other seals such as the rotary valve that can cause this leak? Thanks!
