Black cable from 2nd from the top of the MPEM.

Not sure where it goes. Assume negative on battery, but forgot to label, it and not sure...

OK, so when I am done, there is to be 2 wires on the battery negative? The other going to the starter?

From the factory they had two cables running from the negative battery, one to the MPEM, one to the block at the starter.

For some reason in my boat the MPEM ground runs to the starter, then the other one runs from there to the battery, so there's only one ground wire on the batt in my boat. Never saw a reason to change it, but if you don't remember having two wires going to that battery, it may have been that way on yours too.

It is a very long wire, so it has to go somewhere other than the starter.

It also has a quick bend in it like it was going up into the battery cover and making a 90 degree bend, so I bet it goes there.

Thanks for the suggestion...

I beleive that only 1 ground wire is on the battery. The other must go to the engine for the engine ground via the mpem. If you pop open the mpem cover you will see that is the only ground to the engine.

I'm not sure what you are getting at... my boat has one ground from MPEM to starter, and one from starter to battery.

I just double checked the parts catalog page, and my boat is correct... the MPEM ground cable runs from the MPEM along the bulkhead towards the battery under the oil tank, then it goes through wire ties with the oil lines heading back to the engine and ends up getting bolted to the starter mounting bolt with the other cable.

Attached the picture here...

Now that I think about it, Karl, I think we're agreeing :)

EDIT: Oh right, cable #14 is the ground that runs to the battery, cable #15 is the ground to the MPEM, cable 18 is starter positive that runs to the relay output in the MPEM box.

Yes I agree Jesse, I just didn't want to see both wires attached to the battery with the chance of loose connection on the terminal, causing a chance of a bad ground connection...your diagram is totally correct.
